6 Sports-Themed Superheroes Not Quite Ready for the Big Game
Super Bowl Sunday is stampeding towards us on the gridiron, and what better way to celebrate than by uniting jocks and nerds into one glorious list? Easier said than done, it seems. This may or may not surprise you, but apparently sports have very little to do with superheroes, despite the fact that both involve men and women dressing up in brightly-colored, often animal-themed costumes for our amusement.

The Buffalo Sabre – Did you know Stan Lee designed superheroes for every NHL team?
In celebration of the biggest game day of the year, I’ve decided to spread the wealth of geekery to my more athletic brothers and sisters. Click the jump to see 6 of the sportiest superheroes and villains in comics! Though I wouldn’t necessarily let any of them go home with the game ball.
My 6 Favorite Teams in Comics
Any superhero will tell you: you ain’t nothing until you join a super team! The Justice League and the Avengers only take the best of the best (usually). The Fantastic Four are practically royalty. And Empowered didn’t get any respect until she joined the Super-Homies! Sort of. Super teams are the bread and butter of the comic book industry. Why just have one superhero to a comic when you can have a dozen? Why not take a couple of solo superheroes and put them into a single movie together and make a billion dollars?
Makes sense to me.
Being the fully entrenched comic book geek that I am, most of the teams on this list are going to be kind of obscure. That’s on me. But perhaps some of you readers will learn something new about comics! I can only hope my lists do some good for the world. Join me after the jump to see my favorite comic book super-teams. And please don’t hesitate to share your own favorites in the comments!
6 Movies That Need Long-Awaited Sequels
Pre-production is revving up for the new Star Wars movies, with new hints about actors and plots leaked onto the Internet every day. I bet we’ll know the new stars within the next few weeks, and maybe even get a picture of Chewbacca on set before my next birthday. There’s no stopping the movie train now. We’re going to get new Star Wars sequels!
That got me thinking: what other movies need sequels? Hollywood loves sequels (and threequels and prequels). They’re surefire moneymakers most of the time. But somehow, in some way, a lot of classic, popular movies have gone without any sequels. Or if they had some, the franchise has been dried up for far too long. Hollywood wants money, and I want good movies!
Here are my six suggestions for movies and franchises that need a sequel!
6 Things I Want to See in the Ant-Man Movie
The Marvel movie I am most looking forward to in the next few years is Ant-Man. And I’m including Avengers 2 in that list. I don’t know what it is exactly that has me so excited. Is it the quirky, colorful nature of the C-list superhero? Is it the perfect casting of Paul Rudd? Or maybe Marvel hiring Edgar Wright, one of my all-time favorites, to sit in the director’s chair?
Whatever the case may be, I cannot wait for Ant-Man to shrink onto the big screen in 2015!
Production is ramping up as Wright gets ready to start filming. He’s teased the costume, he’s announced his lead actor, and just the other day on his blog, Wright posted that he’s watching episodes of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for inspiration. (He posted about one episode in particular, which we’ll talk about in a moment). Ant-Man is going to kick off Phase 3 of the Marvel movies. The film is going to prove if, after Avengers 2, the fans have enough faith in Marvel to watch a film that isn’t about Iron Man, Thor or Captain America. I think it’s going to be a huge success.
But since we still have time, how about a few suggestions for what I’d like to see in the film. Here are my six best ideas for Ant-Man, and feel free to show your own wants and desires in the comments!
6 Pop Culture Resolutions for 2014
I may as well say that my New Year’s resolutions for 2014 are to lose weight and save money, but I’ve kind of been making those same resolutions for the past 30 years, and they haven’t come true yet! So how about we veer wildly off course and talk about something much more fun: pop culture!
No, I’m not resolving to play fewer video games or watch less TV. Don’t be crazy.
Instead, I’ve whipped up a list of 6 pop culture things I want to see in 2014. We already know what movies, TV shows and more are coming out, and I resolve to drown myself in all of them. But we don’t know how good or bad they’re going to be, or what surprises might be in store. So let’s get our hopeful wishing hats on, and predict the 6 pop culture resolutions we want to see in 2014!
And yes, I realize these are more like ‘wishes’ than ‘resolutions’, but New Year is all about the resolutions. Cut me some slack, I had a cold this week. Join me after the jump!
