Kingdom Hearts Could Learn a Thing or Two from This Girl
One of my favorite things to talk about on this blog is Internet creativity. I may not have much myself, but there are people out there who do amazing works of art, or videos, or song parodies or whatever else. I randomly stumbled upon this Disney Dressphere Project by artist Alli White. These pictures are delightfully fun. They’re Disney Princesses drawn like Final Fantasy characters, specifically from Final Fantasy X-2, which starred three female protagonists and involved the ‘dressphere’, which was about them changing costumes to gain different power sets.
But I still think they work wonderfully as just general Final Fantasy costumes. And they’d be perfect for Kingdom Hearts, the video game series that already combines Disney and Final Fantasy characters.
Nifty Superhero Redesigns
I’ve praised the awesomeness of Project Rooftop before, but I feel like doing it again today. Project Rooftop is this nifty artist site where people submit high-quality redesigns of popular superheros and their costumes. I love this type of art, because it looks cool, is often very creative and it’s about superheroes. What’s not to love?
Hopefully you’ll be an entertained as I am.
First up is this cool Catwoman design by artist Erica Henderson. It’s got a cool Scott Pilgrim vibe to it.
Next we have some personal favorites of mine, the Wonder Twins! I love the hell out of these characters, and not just ironically. The Wonder Twins are just neat, and part of that is their goofy origins with the Super Friends. But did you know that the Wonder Twins eventually appeared in the actual comics? In the mid-90s, they made the jump from the cartoon to the actual, in-canon comics during a series call Extreme Justice. Yep, it was the 90s alright.
This picture, making the pair look rather alien and badass, is drawn by artist Andrew Trabbold.
Finally we have what may be one of the snazziest superhero costume redesigns I have ever seen: Steampunk Scientist Ant-Man! This comes from artist George Kambadais, who drew a whole line up of Avengers. But this Ant-Man is above and beyond the call of phenomenal. I love the labcoat-esque shirt that buttons up to the neck. I love that it’s not tucked in. And I love the knee-high boots with the pants tucked in. This costume is just a brilliant design.
Finally Bringing Ninja Turtles to My Blog
I was a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan when I was a kid. Still am, technically. But out of all the 80s cartoons, Ninja Turtles was probably my favorite. So let’s take a nostalgic trip back to those badass days with this stop-motion animation version of the classic Ninja Turtles cartoon opening. Give the video a few seconds, creator Kyle Roberts put himself into it at the beginning for some reason. Proud of his work, I guess.
Celebrities I Can Actually Stand
Apparently the guy who voices Superman for all those WB animated cartoons and movies, Tim Daly, has some kind of web series with his son. And Nathan Fillion, the guy who voices Green Lantern, stopped by the other day to make one hilariously funny web-isode. I wish my life was about having this much fun. Watch and enjoy.
Tales from a Dinosaur Planet
If there is a better theory about the extinction of the dinosaurs than ‘they blasted off in a rocketship to explore the stars’, then I don’t want to hear it. Some may say that the massive crater in the southwest was the result of an asteroid hitting Earth. But the band MJ Hibbert & The Validators believe it’s ground zero for launching the greatest rocketship in the history of the universe!
But now the dinosaurs are back! And you’ll have to listen to this rock opera to hear the whole story!
Mostly I just like the sound and the concept, but I guess these guys are coming out with a whole album to explain the secret history of the dinosaurs and why they talk like pirates. I’m far too cheap to actually buy the album, but it’s a wonderfully novel idea for music so I thought I’d share. Perhaps it’s your cup of tea. You can follow the link above to download or order the album.
I say go for it. There is worse music out there.
