My 6 Favorite Things of 2020

What is there possibly left to say about 2020? This was a dumpster fire of a year for pretty much everybody, and the last person who should be commenting on it is me. I’m safe to say that I’m healthy and fine. I made it through this horrible year pretty well. So let’s wrap it up with my favorite movies, TV shows and comics from the year!

It’s an enamel pin!

It’s the least we can do. I’ve done this for the past several years, and we might as well do it now. Because as someone who spent most of the year locked down at home, working from home, I definitely blasted through a lot of media. So much so, that I split television shows into two categories this year, just so I could talk about different shows in different contexts. This was also a year without any Marvel movies, which are usually my favorite in any given year, let alone major movie releases to begin with!

This was a crazy year, but there was still good stuff out there in the world! Granted, I didn’t see, read or play all of it…but I experienced enough! So join me after the jump for my favorite media from 2020!

New Year, New Spider-Man Suit

Marvel unveiled a new Spider-Man costume today to be part of the next big storyline in Amazing Spider-Man. I haven’t been reading the series, so I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen to warrant this new suit. But here it is anyway!

The new suit is designed by artist Dustin Weaver.

It looks fine. I mean, it looks terrible for a main Spider-Man costume, but it looks perfectly fine for the temporary costume we all know it’s going to be. I’m sure Peter Parker has all manner of reasons why he’s going to wear this thing. And we can only hope the story is as good as those reasons.

As we all know, Spider-Man has a bajillion alternate costumes throughout his history, so adding one more is no big deal. I’m sure it will be fine and will have its fans.

Personally, I did a List of Six of my favorite Spider-Man costumes a couple years ago. I’m a man who revolves around the classic suit. There’s no topping that classic Spider-Man costume.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/26/20

Welcome to the post-Christmas comic book review roundup! Not a lot of comics came out this week, or at least none on my reading list, so this is going to be a short article. Just a couple of Marvel comics.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Doctor Doom #10, which turns out to be the final issue of this series. I really enjoyed it! Christopher Cantwell has a great handle on Doom as a unique character!

Doom isn’t very good at the first step

Meanwhile, I finished up The Owl House on Disney+ and it was great! Glad to have that new show to look forward to going forward. And by the time this goes up, I will have probably seen either Soul or Wonder Woman 1984 or both! I hope they are good.

Comic Reviews: Doctor Doom #10 and U.S. Agent #2.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/19/20

Merry Christmas, everybody! And Happy Hannukah! And all the other winter holidays! This time next week, Christmas will have passed! I don’t yet know if I’ll be going home for Christmas, or who all will even be there if I do. But hopefully I’ll have a good time.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #105 for a solid, enjoyable conclusion to the Ghost-Maker arc. I like how it ends, which was legitimately unexpected for me.

“That this city is full of people ready to believe in good…or something like that.”

Meanwhile, I’m still enjoying Cyberpunk 2077. I don’t know if I’ll do a review/list when I’m finished. It would have far more positives than gripes. I also just started watching The Owl House on Disney+ and it’s a ton of fun so far! I’m so glad I’m finding all these new cartoons since so many of my favorites ended recently.

Speaking of Disney+, how great was that season finale of The Mandalorian?! Also, I called it! I called the ending! It’s not often I actually manage to call something.

Comic Reviews: Batman #105, The Green Lantern: Season Two #10, Iron Man #4 and Power Rangers #2.

Beta Ray Bill is Getting a New Comic!

The greatest comic book character of all time — Beta Ray Bill — is going to get a new comic mini-series in March! The comic will be written and drawn by Daniel Warren Johnson.

I love Beta Ray Bill as much as the next person, so I’m obviously excited. The story is going to be something of a tie-in to King in Black, which isn’t ideal. But such is the current focus of Marvel. And Beta Ray Bill has lost Stormbreaker. But at least the recent de-powering by Donald Blake wasn’t permanent.

Of the series, Johnson said, “Beta Ray Bill is literally my favorite Marvel character, so it’s a dream come true, and there are images in this book I’ve been wanting to illustrate for years.”

Johnson is apparently old comic pals with Donny Cates, which is one way to get such a job! I need to make more friends in the indie comics world…
