Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/7/22
Another week, another pile of barely there comics. What is happening to me? Do I just…not like comics anymore? Are there too many crossovers that I’m just naturally avoiding? I feel like a disappointment. Maybe I should start reading more indie comics…
Comic Book of the Week goes to One-Star Squadron #6 for a hard-hitting but ultimately satisfying finale.
Meanwhile, I went and saw Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and I loved it! I wasn’t fully on board during the first half at some points, but everything really won me over by the end. Another fine addition to the MCU and I can’t wait to see it again!
Comic Reviews: Marauders #2 and One-Star Squadron #6.

What a strangely big week for comics! Not only do we have a controversial launch of a new Amazing Spider-Man era, but we’ve also got the death of the Justice League! Both are something else. But neither one is my favorite comic of the week.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Saga #58 for another solid, enjoyable Saga issue with a strong hook at the end.
Meanwhile, I’m said to say I’ve dropped Thor because it just wasn’t my cup of tea. It was written and drawn well, but I was growing tired of its repetitive nature. I’m also not particularly interested in an upcoming crossover with the Hulk. Beyond that, I’m currently in the middle of binging The Last Kingdom on Netflix, and it’s pretty good. And I’m very excited for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness next week!
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #1, Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #2, Justice League #75 and Saga #58.

I think I’m running out of comics. I’m dropping more titles than I’m picking up, resulting in some pretty sparse review columns each week! I should read more…but man, some of the major comics coming out just aren’t my cup of tea. I’m stuck enjoying some truly stupendous comics like Nightwing and Power Rangers.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #91 for another delightful team up between Nightwing and the Flash. I’m glad to see that all that Wally West madness has been straightened out and he can just be the Flash without any baggage.
Meanwhile, I beat Horizon Forbidden West and had a blast! That game was everything I wanted it to be, so I’m very pleased. Now I just need to wait a week to get that Horizon LEGO set. I also saw Everything Everywhere All At Once and that movie was absolutely phenomenal! Early contender for movie of the year! Do yourself a favor and go find and watch that movie!
Comic Reviews: Nightwing #91 and Power Rangers #18.

My lifelong dream is to become a professional writer. And while I am currently working on a self-published comic book series — Gamer Girl & Vixen — I’m also constantly dreaming up ideas for new comics and stories and characters. And a lot of time, I do this daydreaming for actual, existing properties. Because someday, universe willing, I might get invited to pitch to Marvel Comics.
But I’m not getting invited to pitch tomorrow, so I thought a fun little game would be to share some of my X-Men comic ideas with all of you. I was inspired by the announcement last week that Leah Williams will be writing a new X-Terminators series, in which a bunch of cool characters will have a fun and wild adventure for five issues. That is exactly what I want to do: pitch a bunch of 5-issue, X-Men mini-series to Marvel, just to have some fun and write some cool X-Men.
So join me after the jump for a peek at my creator notebook for some random X-Men comic book ideas!

The Hellfire Gala is going to be an annual event for X-Men comics — at least for now — and I’m very excited. I really enjoyed last year’s event, and I think it is an amazing addition to the narrative. It’s also, apparently, a chance for god-tier artist Russell Dauterman to just go hog wild designing high fashion X-Men outfits. These are just so darn gorgeous!
That Doctor Doom outfit is the most perfect thing I’ve possibly ever seen in my entire life.
There are a couple more outfits available here. They’re all wonderful and perfect and I hope Marvel keeps Dauterman fully employed for years to come for each and every Hellfire Gala. Also, why isn’t he doing interiors for an ongoing comic? He was amazing on Mighty Thor. Where’s his X-Men ongoing?!
