Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/15/23
Comics come and comics go, and this week they came. Got a bunch on my list to read, and a bunch on my list to review. And now you can scroll down and read them all! We’ve got the kick off the Captain America: Cold War, we’ve got some Fantastic Four, and another issue of the X-Men!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1 because, at the very least, the Guardians as cowboys is fun.
Meanwhile, I’m still grinding my way through Gotham Knights. I can definitely play that game for long binges and enjoy myself, but so much of the gameplay is frustrating. I think I’m mostly in it to find the perfect transmog Robin costume, even though Batgirl is probably the best character to play. Also, I don’t care what the haters are saying, I’m enjoying the third seasons of both The Mandalorian and Ted Lasso.
Comic Reviews: Captain America: Cold War Alpha, Fantastic Four #6, Guardians of the Galaxy #1, and X-Men #21.

Happy Easter, everyone! I’ll be heading home to get a meal with the parents and whatever extended family show up. That’s always fun. Even if it comes right in the middle of my 3-day weekend. Oh well. It’s always nice to have Monday off. And it’s always nice to get some quality, generally good comics this week, like Batman, Captain America and even more Saga.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #4, which remains a really fun, engaging and magical comic.
Meanwhile, I’m still chugging through Gotham Knights. The fights are a real chore, so I’m not all that attached to the game. But I’m gonna make it through, I’m gonna do all the good Robin stuff! And I’m eagerly awaiting the new Chaos Dwarves DLC to Total War: Warhammer 3, my game of the year from last year. And I liked the Super Mario Bros. Movie, even if it was pretty basic. No Sonic the Hedgehog cameo, like I was hoping for.
Comic Reviews: Batman #134, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #11, Saga #63 and Scarlet Witch #4.

Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone! I love this holiday and all the internet hijinks that ensure. I would have done something with my blog, but I’m out of town this weekend, so I didn’t have time. That’s also why my review list is so short this week. Just a pair of comics.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Strange Academy: Finals #5 for a truly wonderful cliffhanger.
Meanwhile, I’ve finally started playing Gotham Knights and I can immediately see what everybody disliked about this game. The fighting just isn’t fun. It’s a chore. But there was no way I was going to pass up Robin: The Video Game, so I’m going to see this one through to the end. I also finished off the second season of Carnival Row and I was quite pleased with both the season and the ending. I really liked Carnival Row, and it’s a shame the show didn’t take off.
Comic Reviews: Invincible Iron Man #4 and Strange Academy: Finals #5.

Walls. We all have them. They serve a very important function in our lives. Sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re bad. They’re walls. They’re totally a thing. And on this auspicious day, I’ve decided to do an internet superhero listicle about characters whose power is to be a wall, make a wall or just be wall-like.
You might be asking yourself, where did this even come from? The idea was inspired by two characters on this list who I randomly happened to notice in my life in close proximity. They’re not A-list characters. They’re not about to headline the next Marvel Disney+ show. But they exist, they are documented, and it sent me on a journey to find others like them in the annals of comic book history. Maybe next time I’ll do a list of characters who are floors or characters who are chairs.
Join me after the jump for, quite possibly, the silliest comic book character list I’ve ever done. Six characters who are walls.

Who loves comics? I love comics! And some of my favorites came out this week. It’s always an enjoyable time when I get to read Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Nightwing in the same week.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Superman #2 for an excellent entry, making this series two-for-two so far for me. Joshua Williamson and his creative team are knocking this one out of the park in terms of story, character and especially some gorgeous artwork.
Meanwhile, I finally beat Midnight Suns and I can definitely say it was a good game. A ton of work went into that thing to really flesh out all its Marvel superheroes, and I would definitely look forward to a sequel. I also saw John Wick: Chapter 4 and was disappointed. These endless action scenes are diminishing returns for me in this series. I’m also watching the second season of Carnival Row. So at least somebody is, right?
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #106, Nightwing #102, Superman #2 and The Wasp #3.
