The Greatest Stingray Comic Ever Written!
I don’t know why, but I’ve been on a real tirade about the superhero Stingray for awhile now. I’ve always been a fan of the character, ever since I discovered him flipping through some of my dad’s old comic book periodicals when I was a kid. He’s just plain neat, with a really cool costume.
And this past week, I discovered the greatest Stingray comic ever written.
Majestic as all get out!
Big props to Henchie chipsiup for pointing me towards last week’s Deadpool #7, which featured a back-up Stingray comic written by Tim Seeley, with art by Mike Norton and Veronica Gandini. The comic also features back-up stories about Terror, Foolkiller, Slapstick and the other Mercs for Money, but I didn’t read them. So maybe this was also the greatest Slapstick comic ever written. We’ll never know. All that matters is that Seeley, Norton and Gandini have produced something truly amazing.
I say this without sarcasm or irony. I’m not making fun of anybody. I’m literally just a really big Stingray fan, and this creative team fulfilled every single possible nerd desire I could possibly have about the character. They explain why he’s teamed up with Deadpool and the Mercs for Money, it gives us insight into Stingray’s personal life, and more important than that, it’s the greatest possible showcase of just how cool Stingray can be.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/13/16
Happy Love Day, one and all! Oh no, wait, that’s that other holiday. This is Valentine’s Day weekend! This is when we should be feeling the looooove! But alas, none of the comics I read this week had a Valentines bent. Odd, considering we had new issues of Starfire, Totally Awesome Hulk and All-New Wolverine, all of which would totally make good romance comics!
Well…maybe not all of them. Still, solid, enjoyable week for comic books.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Ms. Marvel, which finally proved to me why Kamala Khan should be an Avenger!
This is sort of like ‘Avengers Assemble’
I didn’t say it was for good reasons…

The season of love is upon us once again, and like all good holidays or random days of the week, I’m gonna re-contextualize it to be about comic books! That’s how I roll, my friends. That is indeed how I roll. And this year, I’ve gathered up the six best characters in comics with the literal power of love!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/6/16
This might be the weirdest comic review article of my long blogging career. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the latest issue of Batgirl really hits home for me in a lot of weird ways. Especially when you consider it features a villain who can read and alter minds…but you’ll have to read on to find out what I mean!
Beyond the new Batgirl, this was a solid, enjoyable week of comics. We got new Iron Man and Captain Marvel comics, as well as Miles Morales’ debut in the regular Marvel Universe! I was against this idea from the beginning, but the execution isn’t half bad.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Doctor Strange #5. Writer Jason Aaron is hitting it out of the park with this opening storyline! I hope the Doctor Strange movie is even half this cool.
Atlantean Black Magic!
I’m sure Benedict Cumberbatch can pull this off.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/30/16
We’re still tepidly awaiting the reveal of the new DC Rebirth here in Comic Book Land. Will it be a complete reboot like the New 52? Or just a relaunch like Marvel’s Post-Secret Wars plans? Your guess is as good as mine! I’m just gonna keep reading and enjoying myself.
One comic that I know will never let you down is my own, Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re gearing up for another Kickstarter soon, so if you missed out on getting the comic the first time, we’re going to go bigger and better soon! I’ll try not to talk your ears off too much about it.
Until then, let’s enjoy new issues of the Avengers, Spider-Woman, We Are Robin and more! This week finally saw the release of Faith #1 from Valiant Comics, which I was excited about, but which didn’t live up to the hype. Fortunately, the new issue of Grayson steals the show with one of the best non-Squirrel Girl jokes I’ve read in awhile.

Also, for anybody tuning in for my ongoing coverage of Saga, I decided not to review the new issue because not a whole lot happens. Brian Vaughn kind of just moved a few pieces around the board. Not a big deal.
