Let’s Start the New Year with the CGP Grey Flag Saga

If you don’t watch CGP Grey on YouTube, consider this a solid introduction to his content. The dude is smart and he makes smart and funny videos about a wide range of niche topics. I’m a guy who can definitely get behind passion for niche projects. Recently, he updated his flag tier video saga, so I figured I’d share the whole thing.

Basically, Grey makes a tier list of all the United States state flags, and then he released a video this holiday season ranking the Canadian province flags! Neat!

First up is the U.S. flags. It came out in April, but I’m sharing it now.

The guy makes a lot of sense. I’ve never liked the New York State flag. It’s ugly and needs a redesign!

Then, a few weeks ago, Grey announced an epilogue to his flag saga in which the state of Minnesota revealed a new flag redesign! I think they’ve picked their new design finalist — they have — but here’s Grey’s introduction to the ones in the running. I think this video turned me on to Grey’s whole flag saga.

I like the new design!

And lastly, he released the Canada video as a Christmas present, so huzzah! More CGP Grey Flag Content!

Happy New Year, everybody! Here’s to me posting more videos, movie trailers, nonsensical lists and comic reviews! I’m gonna go see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom tomorrow, so expect a list soon of me ranking all the DCEU movies. Until then, fare thee well.

I Didn’t Care for Wonka

I never liked the look or even the general idea of the new Wonka movie, the Willy Wonka origin story. But then it started getting a ton of good reviews, and I decided to give it a try at my local movie theater — and I didn’t care for it. The movie is bright, colorful, fun and whimsical, all things I normally enjoy, but I couldn’t get over the obnoxious insistence on being a Willy Wonka origin story. Every little Easter Egg was like that time we learned the meaning behind Han Solo’s last name.

But let’s not hold that against the Willy Wonka character! Who is now animated!

Tell It Animated is getting better at releasing their videos closer to the actual release date of the new movie/show/comic. So that’s nice. This was another solid video.

And as always, my recommendation for his next video is Robin!

Friendly Reminder: New Marvel What If…? Starts Today!

The new season of Marvel’s What If…? cartoon starts today! It’s available on Disney+ as we speak! I really enjoyed the first season, and I have high hopes for this second season. Marvel is still good to me and I’m happy to watch. I’ll probably binge some of the episodes this weekend when I head out of town to visit family for Christmas.

Here’s a very brief trailer/ad that came out yesterday about today’s debut.

Yeah, that trailer heavily implies that What If…? will start “tomorrow”, but I assure you, that trailer came out yesterday. What If…? starts today! So go watch.

I’m most excited to see the new, 1980s era Avengers. I even bought the Goliath Marvel Legends action figure because I think it’s neat that he gets to exist in cartoon and toy form only. So we’ll see how that episode goes.

6 Thoughts on the First Season of Blue Eye Samurai

There are a ton of great TV shows in the world today. The amount of content is so overwhelming that one struggles to find time to watch it all. It doesn’t help that streaming services like Netflix do jack all to actually advertise these shows. One must turn to the world wide web to get some good word of mouth. Which is how I found the very excellent Blue Eye Samurai!

TV Show Rating: 9/10 – Great

Netflix just keeps making shows, putting them on their service and then just moving on with their lives. But enough people and websites mentioned how good this show was, so I gave it a try and loved it! Not that you need new things to watch, but Blue Eye Samurai is worth your time. And Netflix has already renewed it for season two, so huzzahs all around!

Join me after the jump for my thoughts and review of the first season of Blue Eye Samurai. Expect LIGHT SPOILERS for the show. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

Movie Trailer Friday

A couple movie trailers rolled out this week and I’m finally getting around to rounding them up and sharing them with you all. Are they interesting movies? Probably not. Will I watch any of them? Maybe at some point!

First up is the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4! Who knew that was happening?

I’m not impressed, but at the same time, I know that the Kung Fu Panda movies deliver. They are great movies that still hold up. So will they keep that greatness going for a fourth? Or is this just a desperate attempt to cash in on the franchise name? I’m a big Awkwafina fan, so it’s fun to see her show up. But where are the Furious Five?! I guess we’ll see.

Kung Fu Panda 4 comes to theaters on March 8.

Next up is Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the legacy sequel to those original Beverly Hills Cop movies.

I didn’t see the original Beverly Hills Cop movies until well into adulthood, so I have no nostalgic connection to this series. I have no memory of those movies either. The only things I remember about Beverly Hills Cop are the bits from The Clerks cartoon show, so yeah. But hey, I like modern day Eddie Murphy, and he’s had good luck teaming up with Netflix. So maybe it’ll be fun.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F comes to Netflix next summer.

Lastly, the new John Krasinski joint, If, about imaginary friends.

I didn’t like the look of this trailer, and not just because it’s a Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends rip-off. It’s that moment when the little girl tells the big, purple If not to say the word ‘ifs’ when he’s answering her question, leading to that really weird, strained moment. But ‘ifs’ is the answer to her direct question, and clearly the word he was going to say. So why would she tell him not to say the obvious answer?! Just for that unfunny strained moment?! What’s going on?

Anyway, If comes to…I think theaters…on May 17.
