Superman Unbinds…and I Guess Brainiac is in There Too
The next DC Animated movie has been announced and it’s another Superman film. And they’ve given it another name that has absolutely nothing to do with the content. It’s called Superman: Unbound, and it’s going to adapt Geoff’ Johns’ Brainiac revamp from a few years ago.
But really? Superman: Unbound? What does that name have to do with anything? Why not just call it Superman: Brainiac or something that actually has to do with the movie? DC’s marketing people need to be dragged out into the street and shot.
Matt Bomer is going to voice Superman. I know him best as Bryce from Chuck, but he also stars in that show White Collar. Will he make a good Superman? Let’s hope so. John Noble, of Fringe, will be Brainiac, with Stana Katic as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn as Supergirl. You can learn more in this TV Guide article.
I never read the Geoff Johns’ story, but he had some neat ideas for Brainiac, as well as a great new visual. It looks like they’re going to carry that look into this movie. So I have hope that the adaptation will be interesting. I just really, really hate the name.
Thunder and Lightning and Amethyst!
The DC Nation animation block is back, and with it come the adorable mini short cartoons. One of them is a cartoon about Thunder and Lightning, the children of superhero Black Lightning. It’s pretty neat…but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a good copy. Still, it’s a lazy Sunday, and I wanted to share it with you guys, so here’s a crummy copy that somebody filmed on their TV! You can thank me later.
Or thank me never. Your choice.
In better news, the clip for Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld is even better! I love the video game aspects of this cartoon. Fun way to portray Gemworld.
You can definitely thank me for that one.
Batman Just Loves Beating Up Cops
Though I think they started it. Here’s the first clip of the upcoming DVD Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2.
When Peter Weller isn’t speaking, Batman is actually very badass in these movies. The DVD comes out on Jan. 29 and I am definitely going to watch. Though as you may recall, I wasn’t enthralled with the first one. Entertained, sure, but it had a lot of flaws.
Live Action Hong Kong Phooey and Marvin the Martian
Of all the random things you thought you might see today, I bet you didn’t expect test footage from live action versions of Hong Kong Phooey (the #1 super guy!) and Marvin the Martian! What do those two properties have to do with one another? Apparently they’re being made by director Alex Zamm. Or at least the Phooey one is still in production, with some kind of Eddie Murphy attached. Marvin the Martian has been cancelled though. At least according to Bleeding Cool.
Neat clips, at least!
Animated Punisher Fan Film Makes My Day
The Internet does it again and randomly delivers a fan-animated adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Do Not Fall in New York City.
Apparently this came out a few months ago, but I haven’t heard about it until now. Ain’t that how it always is? The film is a brilliant piece of Ennis brutality. It could have used some music, but otherwise it’s quite moody, and perfectly Punisher. See Hollywood, it’s not hard at all to get the Punisher right. This was made by animator Luis Pelayo Junquera.
