Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – Dec. 17, 2016
Sometimes I complain that comics don’t feature holiday stories anymore, but then I never read the specific holiday-themed one shots that both Marvel and DC tend to release. I want to see Batman do Christmas stuff in the actual pages of Batman! Holiday-themed comic book specials are about as entertaining to read as holiday-themed TV specials.
Fortunately, we still have good comics to read otherwise. Detective Comics and Power Man and Iron Fist continue to be great, while Mosaic and Jessica Jones continue to disappoint. But this week also saw the release of the new Hawkeye series, and it wins Comic Book of the Week for a really fun vibe for a first issue.
Also, wha’td everybody think of the new Star Wars movie? I thought it was pretty spectacular. Working on my full review still.
Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #946, Hawkeye #1, Jessica Jones #3, Mosaic #3 and Power Man and Iron Fist #11.
Wonder Twins LEGOs, You Guys!
A new mini-trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie came out this weekend, and while it’s great, it also features something truly special: Wonder Twins LEGOs! Keep your eyes peeled at 1:24 in the video for the specialness.
That’s just plain fun.
The trailer is good too. This movie is going to be all manner of amazing. Cannot wait. Maybe the most anticipated movie of 2017? Yeah, maybe.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/26/16
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews might never be the same after this week. I didn’t see it coming, but I’ve been buzzing on this since new comics dropped on Wednesday. Sure we got some solid comics this week, like Detective Comics and Teen Titans, but this is the week where everything changes.
Harley Quinn #8 wins Comic Book of the Week for probably the single best issue of the entire run so far. And not just because it’s so damn fun. This is next level stuff. This is so good, I’m going to do something I’ve never done in my several years worth of comic reviews.
Maybe I’ll be setting a precedent that I can in no way sustain, but I don’t care. This is Comic Book of the Year material.
But no, not just because of the tasteful nudity. Read below for my essay of a review!
Also, the latest issue of Civil War II was released this week, and the Big Event continues to underwhelm. Not to mention the fact that most other Marvel comics have simply moved on already. And it doesn’t even come close to the magic that is Harley Quinn.
Comic Reviews: Batgirl #5, Detective Comics #945, Harley Quinn #8, Prowler #2 and Teen Titans #2.
Did We Know That Harper Row Was Bisexual? If Not, It’s Super Cool!
I’ve been following Harper Row since she debuted in Batman comics a few years ago, because I think she’s a perfect choice for a new Robin. Even with Duke Thomas now filling the sidekick roll (another solid choice), he’s not Robin, so there’s still hope for Harper!
At any rate, today’s new issue of Detective Comics drops a pretty interesting tidbit about Harper. I don’t remember anyone ever mentioning that she was bisexual before, but here we go!
I think this is great news! I am all about adding diversity to comics and all entertainment, and new LGBT characters are always a plus. So this is a cool move on the parts of DC and writer James Tynion IV, who is also openly bi.
And it’s another reason why Harper should be the new Robin!

Speaking of LEGO figures I Want to Own…
Today is a great day for superhero LEGOs! Not only has Marvel revealed a Ms. Marvel mini-fig, but DC is also going to make one for Catman! And not just any Catman, but Gail Simone’s original Secret Six Catman! Holy guacamole, people! It’s like Christmas has come one month early!
I gotta have it!
Unfortunately, this Catman treasure will be part of LEGO’s blind bag waves. Basically, they just sell the bag and you could get any one of the 20 figurines in the wave. I might want to buy Catman, but I’ll end up with Batman wearing a tutu. It could happen. So it looks like I’ll have to turn to eBay or something…
