Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/7/19

How cool was that new Black Widow trailer this past week? We’re on the verge of entering a new round of superhero movies! I can’t wait! Thankfully, plenty of good comics to read until then, including Batman, various X-Men and Lois Lane!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern: Blackstars for an utterly hilarious takedown of DC Comics. Grant Morrison is creatively savage.

This panel isn’t a good example, it’s just a good picture for above the fold.

Meanwhile, even though I gave up reviewing Magnificent Ms. Marvel, I’m still reading the comic. And I’m pleased to report that — SPOILERS — that stupid new costume of hers has turned out to be evil. Thank the stars!

Comic Reviews: Batman #84, Doctor Doom #3, Excalibur #3, Green Lantern: Blackstars #2, Lois Lane #6, Marauders #3 and X-Men #3.

How About Some Quality Joker Content?

It’s that time of year! When Joker comes out on DVD and the internet is awash with Joker content to capitalize on the SEO! I’m no internet expert, nor was I particularly a fan of Joker, but I’m all about sharing some quality-made internet comedy.

Like How Joker Should Have Ended!

Once again, the HISHE people focus more on their own running gags than on an actual alternate ending to Joker…but this one was still funny. Solid comedy all-around, including the attention to detail of an all-80s Villains Pub.

Then we’ve also got the Tell It Animated guy doing the Joker!

He’s also doing a ton of ads, apparently. But hey, I’m no fool. You make that money, friend! You turn your awesome idea into a moneymaker! You make it happen!

And do Iron Man next. Or James Bond.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/23/19

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving, everybody! By this time next week, I will have enjoyed a nice, big meal with my loving family and all will be well with the world. Hopefully. All was mostly well with comics this week, with the likes of Batman, Iron Man, Thor and the X-Men!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Gwenpool Strikes Back because the issue finally embraces just how insane it can really get with this character.

Buncha Gwens 02

As much as I enjoy Gwenpool, I would like to see her go away

Meanwhile, Absolute Carnage came to a solid ending, though the issue is mostly all fight scene and probably would be better read via trades. It also ends with such an obvious cliffhanger that we probably should have all seen it coming. Ah well, still an OK  event all around, even if it doesn’t live up to my memories of Maximum Carnage.

Comic Reviews: Batman #83, Excalibur #2, Gwenpool Strikes Back #4, King Thor #3, Marauders #2 and Tony Stark – Iron Man #18.

The Harley Quinn Cartoon is Gonna be Lit!

The Harley Quinn cartoon comes out at the end of the month and it looks better than ever in this new trailer! Apparently it’s going to be R-rated, which is pretty neat! The R-rated Joker movie just became the first such movie to gross more than $1 billion. So while Marvel is family friendly, maybe DC is going hardcore.

The cartoon looks great! Wacky, wild, wicked and deep in DC lore! I’m very much looking forward to the Harley Quinn cartoon. And DC better not be afraid to hook up Harley and Ivy! Just make it happen!

I also hope to see Red Tool.

Sure, Jayme Lawson is the New [REDACTED]

I have been trying to keep up with casting news for the new Batman movie coming out in a couple of years. I’ve liked most of it, like Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Robert Pattinson as Batman. But casting news has been coming so fast and loose that I’ve fallen way behind. We’ve got Jeffrey Wright confirmed as Commissioner Gordon. Andy Serkis as Alfred. And rumors of Colin Farrell as Penguin and Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face! It’s madness!

The newest news is actor Jayme Lawson in an unnamed role.

Jayme Lawson 01

Apparently she’s a brand new college grad and this is her first Hollywood role. That’s some pretty solid career advancement already. Good for her!

Second, what role does she have? Everybody is guessing it’s Barbara Gordon, considering we’ve now got a black Commissioner Gordon. Makes sense. It also makes sense in that the film might be really coy with Batman’s allies. It can have all the villains it wants, but Batman having allies and sidekicks makes for an entirely different movie, so they might want to keep Batgirl news secret. Of course, she could just be Barbara and not yet Batgirl.

All of this is to say we might not know Dick Grayson has been cast when he’s cast! I want Robin news!
