Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/21/23
By the time you are reading this, I am hopefully hours-deep into the new Spider-Man 2 video game, and I’m loving the heck out of it! I’m also loving this week’s comics, which featured some of my absolute current favorite superhero comics coming out right now. What a fun week!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Superman #7, narrowly beating out new issues of Nightwing and Scarlet Witch. When weighed against one another, Superman #7 just contains more story oomph. The other comics were great s well!
Meanwhile, my Cyberpunk 2077 replay has been cut short thanks to Spider-Man 2. No big loss. I’ve got the saved games, so maybe I’ll play both at the same time? We’ll see. Spider-Man 2 is great so far. I love the familiar gameplay, I love this world, and I’m on a Playstation 5 now, so everything looks so damn good!
Comic Reviews: Nightwing #107, Scarlet Witch #9, Sensational She-Hulk #1 and Superman #7.

The day is finally here! After waiting many years, after waiting all day this week, after waiting the hours of my work day, it’s finally time to play and enjoy Spider-Man 2! Granted, I’m posting this in the morning and won’t be able to play until I get out of work later…but still, let’s be happy!
Here’s the launch trailer. Looks great.
This game is gonna be a blast! The last game, and the Miles Morales spin-off, were amazing. And I’ve got a 3-day weekend ahead of me, so I plan to play all weekend long. Gonna swing and web to my heart’s content! I hope everyone else is having just as much fun.

Napoleon was a Pretty Bad Dude
There’s a big, fancy Napoleon movie coming out next month, from director Ridley Scott. The guy who made Gladiator is making a Napoleon movie. It looks pretty good. Looks epic, looks dark, looks like fun.
Who doesn’t love a good, dark, well-made historical biopic? And I’ll readily admit I don’t know enough about Napoleon and that corner of history. I kinda wanna watch this movie just to learn more about Napoleon. He was a pretty bad guy, but he did a lot history-wise, right? I guess I’ll find out soon.
Napoleon comes to theaters at Thanksgiving.

6 Marvel Characters Who Could Support a Traditional TV Show
Word came down last week that Marvel is scrapping most of the work done on the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV show, and that they’re looking to make TV shows more like classic TV productions. This is both dismaying and uplifting news. On the one hand, I’m sorry to hear about any problems at Marvel Studios. On the other hand, I’m all for them doing what needs to be done to put out the best possible product.
I have enjoyed pretty much all of the Marvel Disney+ shows so far, with few exceptions. But it’s interesting to learn that Marvel leaned into making the shows like movies instead of making the shows like shows. That explains a lot. And it’ll be interesting to see Marvel make their shows more like traditional shows, with showrunners, pilots and planned seasons going forward. To that end, why don’t I stick my nose in where it doesn’t belong and offer some suggestions? Marvel has a whole host of characters and teams that haven’t been used yet, and who I think could make for a fun, multi-season, traditional TV show.
Join me after the jump for all the characters I think could support their own multi-season TV show, without the need to tie into the movies.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a month away and it looks pretty sweet. I love the movie, I enjoyed the comics well enough, and if Netflix wants to spend their money making a full-sized, movie cast-voiced Scott Pilgrim anime, I’m all for it. Should be a fun watch.
Some scenes are recognizable, but a lot of this trailer looks new and crazy. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World did a lot to capture the zaniness of the comic, but this anime is really going hard with it. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off should be a blast next month!
The anime comes to Netflix on Nov. 17.
