Next Generation Pokemon Games Announced!
The next generation of Pokemon games were unveiled today for the 3DS. That means I have until they’re released in October to buy a 3DS if I want to play. They’re going to be called Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, and it looks like the gameplay is getting a complete overhaul. Check it out!
That looks really cool. The battles look more like the 3D Pokemon Stadium. And the gameplay appears to be doing away with the traditional bird’s eye view role-playing style, replacing it with a closer, possibly more involved look. I have to say that I definitely approve of this new look. The animation looks rather blocky, akin to early Playstation graphics, but it might actually work for a Pokemon game. Just think of what it could do for environments. Rather than just walking around on a green background to denote grass or a white background to denote snow, this new game may actually look like we’re hunting pokemon in a deep forest or on an Arctic glacier. That would be pretty awesome.
Sadly, I don’t have a 3DS. I’d steal my brother’s, but apparently he’s big into pokemon as well. So if I want to play Pokmeon X and Y, I’m gonna have to shell out the big bucks for one of those things. I haven’t missed a new pokemon game yet. Heck, I even bought my DS just so that I could play Pokemon Pearl and Diamond. So I better start saving my pennies.
Check out those new starter pokemon.
We’ve got odd-looking grass chipmunk named Chespin, Vulpix-wannabe fire fox named Fennekin and old man-looking water frog named Froakie. None of them look particularly interesting to me so far, and I’ll probably wait until I see their evolutions before deciding which one I’d pick. But based on just their first stages…I’d pick Froakie. Having a frog starter would make me the Neville Longbottom of the pokemon world. And it’d be my first water starter since Totodile in Pokemon Silver. Should be fun!
What do you guys think? Which starter would you choose?
The Apocalypse Needs to Reschedule
I’m quickly jumping onto the Pacific Rim bandwagon and here’s a new trailer – though it’s not all that different from the last trailer.
Still badass though. Idris Elba is going to be awesome.
Superman Unbinds…and I Guess Brainiac is in There Too
The next DC Animated movie has been announced and it’s another Superman film. And they’ve given it another name that has absolutely nothing to do with the content. It’s called Superman: Unbound, and it’s going to adapt Geoff’ Johns’ Brainiac revamp from a few years ago.
But really? Superman: Unbound? What does that name have to do with anything? Why not just call it Superman: Brainiac or something that actually has to do with the movie? DC’s marketing people need to be dragged out into the street and shot.
Matt Bomer is going to voice Superman. I know him best as Bryce from Chuck, but he also stars in that show White Collar. Will he make a good Superman? Let’s hope so. John Noble, of Fringe, will be Brainiac, with Stana Katic as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn as Supergirl. You can learn more in this TV Guide article.
I never read the Geoff Johns’ story, but he had some neat ideas for Brainiac, as well as a great new visual. It looks like they’re going to carry that look into this movie. So I have hope that the adaptation will be interesting. I just really, really hate the name.
Review: Ultimate Comics: All-New Spider-Man #19
What a disappointing issue. Not that Ultimate Spider#19 is a bad book, it’s just that nothing happens. The big crossover is gone and we’re back to business at hand, but writer Brian Michael Bendis doesn’t do anything with this moment. Instead, we get a lot of teases of stuff that could be happening. This is the first part of a new Venom story, but the villain barely even appears until the final page. So really, this is just a dull comic promising us better stuff down the line.
Even the art of returning artist Sara Pichelli is lackluster, and actually bad in some places. She draws a weird J. Jonah Jameson.
Comic rating: 3/5: Alright.
Speaking of JJJ, he has a nice scene in this issue, but it’s not as powerful as I was hoping it might be. Towards the end of the Peter Parker series, Bendis was doing some amazing things with Jameson. I have always preferred the respectable newsman version of Jameson as opposed to the raving lunatic Jameson. Like in the first Spider-Man movie, when he refused to tell Green Goblin who sells him the pictures of Spider-Man. And that version of Jameson has always been around in the Ultimate Universe. Towards the end, Jameson had come over on Peter Parker’s side, knowing the truth about the young hero’s identity and doing everything in his power to help him. It was a great storyline…
…abruptly cut short when Peter was killed. So I’m hoping Bendis has some good plans for Jameson and Miles Morales. They’ll probably never share the same connection that Jameson and Peter did, but perhaps there could be some great stories to tell. The scene in this issue points towards something greater, but like everything else in the issue, it still only points towards something else. That’s what’s so weird about this issue. Everything is just a tease.

Thunder and Lightning and Amethyst!
The DC Nation animation block is back, and with it come the adorable mini short cartoons. One of them is a cartoon about Thunder and Lightning, the children of superhero Black Lightning. It’s pretty neat…but unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a good copy. Still, it’s a lazy Sunday, and I wanted to share it with you guys, so here’s a crummy copy that somebody filmed on their TV! You can thank me later.
Or thank me never. Your choice.
In better news, the clip for Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld is even better! I love the video game aspects of this cartoon. Fun way to portray Gemworld.
You can definitely thank me for that one.
