I Beat the Riddler!

I did it! I’ve defeated the Riddler in Batman: Arkham City! I scoured the game world for all the Riddler trophies, puzzles and collectibles (well, almost all of them, turns out you don’t need every single one), I only looked on the Internet a few times and then I took him down before he ever realized what was happening! Ha! I am the best Batman around! This game was fantastic!

So many characters! So many nooks and crannies to explore! So much Batman depth! This game was a comic book geek’s dream come true! And Riddler was the last, toughest guy to catch!

Now he’s my bitch.

Let's all just forget about Jim Carrey

A lot of people don’t give the Riddler enough credit. There’s a lot more to him than just the guy who tells Batman what his next crime is going to be through sometimes easy riddles. The crime is hardly the point. Riddler isn’t out for riches. He isn’t out to steal anything. He’s out to prove that he is smarter than the Batman. That’s why he gives those clues, that’s why he leaves those hints. The day Batman is unable to solve a riddle is the day Riddler wins!

To quote a recent Riddler puzzle I saw online, “What makes life worth living is competing against the very best. Someone who can figure out my plan as I tell it to him. After all, if I didn’t tell him my plans, they’d just…succeed. How is that fun? You see, we’re playing no-limit, world-level death chest…and he’s the only other Grandmaster around.”

That wonderfully sums up the Riddler.

But now that I’ve beaten Arkham City…what comes next? Tune in tomorrow for the 6 things I want to see in the third Batman: Arkham game.

MODOK Makes Halloween Funny

MODOK dressed as Elvira is brilliant in every sense of the word. This is a hilarious parody by the crew at Marvel: What the…? And like in Treehouse of Horror fashion, there are three funny Halloween shorts. The best one is the second one.

6 Best and 6 Worst Female Superhero Halloween Costumes

Women wearing slutty costumes for Halloween has become so synonymous with the holiday that it’s a now a cliche. It’s expected behavior. Thankfully not while trick-or-treating, but definitely at parties. Not that I’m complaining, but ‘slutty’ has definitely replaced ‘spooky’ when it comes to Halloween costumes.

And that’s no more obvious than with female superhero costumes.

The popularity of superhero movies over the past decade has given a huge boost to the superhero costume market. The Internet is filled with pre-made costumes for sale for both men and women from all corners of the comic and movie universes. A lot of them are really good, even comics-accurate. But more than a few have been radically altered to better fit the ‘slutty’ theme. From a comic nerd’s opinion, some of them are quite ridiculous. And obviously the most important aspect of a Halloween costume is accuracy.

NERD!!!

In the spirit of the holiday, I scoured the Internet and found the 6 best, most accurate female superhero costumes, and 6 of the worst, sluttiest female superhero costumes. These were all pre-made and for sale from different websites. Enjoy!

The Lorax is Being Turned into an Abomination, I Mean a Movie

The trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax has hit the Internet, and I’m pretty sure it’s an abomination unto humanity. I’ll grant that it’s been a few years since I’ve read The Lorax, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t involve wacky grandmothers, bike races, a love story, or the Lorax as a wise-cracking Danny DeVito. Has Hollywood learned nothing from Mike Meyers’ The Cat in the Hat? Or Jim Carrey’s Grinch movie? Sure Horton Hears a Who was alright, but that at least stuck to the actual story.

This…I don’t even know what this is – other than the worst movie trailer I’ve ever seen.

Review: Batman: Arkham City

I was considering not writing this review because it can be summed up in one word: ‘awesome’. But I’m trying to be a legitimate blog here, so I should really do my best to expand upon my thoughts. I will also need to be careful with the overuse of the word ‘awesome’, because everything in this game is ‘awesome’. The freeflow combat, the story, the side missions, the game world, the game play and, most especially, the rich look into the the world of Batman.

Clearly some very big Batman geeks made this game.

Game rating: 5/5: Great!

The Internet is currently filled with glowing reviews and praise for Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. Did you know that the first game, Arkham Asylum, holds the record for the best reviewed superhero game ever in the Guinness Book of World Records? You do now. And it’s no surprise. Arkham Asylum was a glorious achievement in the world of video games, especially superhero video games. It made up for decades of mediocre to crappy Batman games, and revolutionized the depth and breadth to which superhero games could reach. Arkham Asylum was clear proof that with a love of the character and a lot of creativity, superhero games could be something special. And then the game developers, Rocksteady, went and made a bigger, better and deeper game for the sequel, Arkham City.

The Batman: Arkham games are to superhero video games what The Dark Knight movie was to superhero movies. We’re not just talking a game changer. We’re talking revolution!
