6 Thoughts on Superman (Review)

This review is about two weeks late and I apologize for that. Such is life, eh? Anyway, I saw Superman opening weekend in the theater and had a blast. I was very much looking forward to this movie and had nothing but faith in James Gunn to deliver, and he did so in spades. Great film!

Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great

I was mostly lukewarm on all the DCEU movies. I didn’t care for Man of Steel and, even though I think I’ve only seen it that one time in theaters, I just don’t care for it. I probably enjoyed Joss Whedon’s Justice League more than Zack Snyder’s Justice League. I enjoyed both Aquaman movies. But I am more than ready for James Gunn to deliver a new, better DC Cinematic Universe. Let’s hope they’re all as good as Superman.

One Last Look at Superman

No comic book reviews this week because I had to go out of town for a bit and just didn’t have time. So instead, how about we watch the final Superman trailer? I normally don’t watch trailers this close to the actual release of the film, but…it’s Superman! Aren’t we all excited for this movie?

Trailer looks good. Movie still looks good. I’ll see it at the first showing my work schedule will allow. I’m really liking the sense of movement when it comes to the flying and the action. It feels like James Gunn is really trying for something new in terms of superhero presentation, like he’s really going to take the viewer on a literal ride as Superman does his thing. That should be neat to witness in its full scope!

Superman comes out on July 11.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/31/25

I had another busy week this week, but found time to sit and read a bunch of comics. I also found the time to catch up on some of my favorite current comics, so that was nice. And like we’ve seen a lot recently, it’s a bunch of bangers, like Superman and Ultimate Spider-Man.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Martian Manhunter because I am now on board for the weirdness, especially now that the story is developing.

None of us are getting paid

Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy and take my time with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. If you’re on the fence about this one, I can promise you that it’s definitely like a classic Final Fantasy game, like the glory days of 7, 8, 9 and 10. So it’s good. I also just finished the TV Show The Studio this week with Seth Rogen on AppleTV+ and it was good! Definitely lives up to the hype it has received.

Also, it is with a heavy heart I announce the end of my half-hearted, blog-based campaign to get a comic book company to hire me to write a Street Sharks comic. Bleeding Cool says IDW has one in the works already. I truly put it no effort, but it woulda been neat. In the end, it’s my own fault for not becoming a successful enough comic book writer to make my mark in the age of 80s/90s cartoon adaptations.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Martian Manhunter #3, Absolute Wonder Woman #8, Batman #160, Superman #26 and Ultimate Spider-Man #17.

Brace Yourselves for a Superman Trailer!

We knew this Superman trailer was coming today, but I was not prepared for just how much juice is in this trailer — without really giving anything away. We still don’t know the overall story or how all these various elements connect or what. We just got a big, juicy, meaty trailer full of all sorts of goodness!

Man, so much going on. Superman. Clark. Lois. Ma and Pa Kent. Krypto. Villains. Lex Luthor. War. Monsters. Justice Gang. Green Lantern. Just so much stuff! Metamorpho! And I think my favorite part is when that ordinary dude climbs down into the crater and helps Superman to his feet. I loved that little bit!

This movie looks amazing and I can’t wait to watch! James Gunn forever!

Superman comes to theaters on July 11.

Hench-Sized Comic Reviews – 4/5/25

Oh boy, what a week. This year has really been kicking me down, and I’m not even just talking about the wide world of crumbling society. It’s just been…that kind of week. Anyway, new comics keep coming out, and they main fun enough, like the start of Absolute Green Lantern.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Superman #6 for the absolute best issue so far in this already stellar series! It just keeps getting better!

Is this Heaven? No, it’s Iowa

Meanwhile, I’m still very much enjoying Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, as I always knew I would. Just taking my time living in this game. I watched the first season of Paradise on Hulu and found it merely OK, other than a few standout moments or episodes. And I’m currently really enjoying the first season of The Residence on Netflix, which is a murder mystery set at the White House. Highly recommended.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Green Lantern #1, Absolute Superman #6 and X-Men #14.
