Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/20/23
What a difference a vacation makes! I’ve been off from work this whole past week, and I have spent most of my week playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. No time was wasted. I did get some cleaning done, and I read a whole bunch of comics. Seriously, so many comics from my reading list came out this week that I had to cut a few! We’ve got Power Rangers, She-Hulk, Superman, X-Men and even Fantastic Four #700!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Avengers #1 for an excellent start to a new series. The same could also be said for Titans #1, which is also an excellent start to a new team book. Jeez louise, this was a packed week!
Meanwhile, like I said, I’ve been enjoying Tears of the Kingdom. I’m taking my time to just wander around and explore, and watching all those YouTube videos on 10 secrets the game won’t tell you, or crazy construction projects. It’s all around fun! Beyond that…I haven’t done much else noteworthy this vacation. Lotta things I planned to get to that I didn’t. A real shame. Anyway, back to Zelda.
Comic Reviews: Avengers #1, Fantastic Four #700, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #108, She-Hulk #13, Superman #4, Titans #1 and X-Men #22.

We have another mighty fine week of comics for you fine folks. This is one of those weeks where all my favorites come out, like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Nightwing, and even that new Superman. I love a week when all the comics are catered to me!
Comic Book of the Week is an upset this time, with the arrival of She-Hulk #12 to deliver the exact sort of Marvel superhero comic I want to read: a book club meeting! Fair warning, I really go off on this one.
Meanwhile, I very much enjoyed the third season finale of The Mandalorian this week, and I’m gonna do a list of my thoughts/review of the whole season on Wednesday. So be sure to come back to that as I blow all the haters out of the water. I’m also considering the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West, but am otherwise still grinding my way through Gotham Knights.
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #107, Nightwing #103, She-Hulk #12, Superboy: Man of Tomorrow #1 and Superman #3.

Happy New Year, everyone! It’s the last day of 2022 and I’m sure we’re all ready to bid this year farewell and start anew with plans, hopes, dreams and more. And to finish off this year, I’ve got a whole pile of comic reviews, from the end of several comics, like Thunderbolts, to the start of something new with Action Comics!
In fact, Comic Book of the Week goes to Action Comics #1050 because it succeeds in being a nice, new start to a new Superman era. Once again, I will find myself attempting to get into an era of Superman.
Meanwhile, my Christmas gift to myself this year is a Playstation 5, so that’s pretty exciting. It was supposed to arrive today, so if you’re reading this review column the day it was posted, know that I’ll be gradually hitting refresh on the tracking page all day long until it shows up and I rush down and snatch it up! Wish me luck! I’ve got a good year of gaming ahead of me.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1050, She-Hulk #9, Strange Academy: Finals #3, Thunderbolts #5, and X-Terminators #4.

Oof, what a week! You ever take an entire week off from work, get plenty of rest and rejuvenation, but then the first week back is a real killer? It didn’t help that we had the first snow storm of the season this week, making everything just that much crappier. All this means is I didn’t have enough energy to get to all the comics I wanted this week, but I got to a few.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #98 for a truly excellent and enjoyable issue where Nightwing gets his own fifth dimension imp!
Meanwhile, I picked up Pokemon Violet and am looking to dive into it this weekend! Everybody has been complaining about performance issues, but that sort of thing rarely really bothers me. I’ve settled on Fuecoco as my starter after finally getting spoiled on the final evolutions. Beyond Pokemon, I’m also spending today picking up a new computer chair for home after my previous one broke. That one was a good chair, so hopefully this new one can live up to its legacy.
Comic Reviews: Nightwing #98, She-Hulk #8 and Thunderbolts #4.

If you’re reading this, I’m already on vacation! I’ve got a week off from work and I plan on kicking back and just relaxing. Is it a coincidence that I timed my vacation for the release of both God of War: Ragnarok and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever? Nope! Not a coincidence at all!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #129 for a high energy, action-packed issue. It’s a bit weaker than previous issues of this run, but it’s still a fun read. Needs more Robin, though.
Meanwhile, like I said, I’m on vacation. I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll buy Ragnarok yet, since I’ve only got a Playstation 4 to play it on. And because Pokemon Scarlet and Violet come out the week after. I don’t need to be spending $100+ on video games in a single month, you hear me? So we’ll see what my week of relaxation will feature.
Comic Reviews: Batman #129 and She-Hulk #7.
