6 Thoughts on Captain America: Brave New World (Review)

Our year of new Marvel content has begun, with Captain America: Brave New World kicking off an entire 2025 of new movies and shows. I’m super excited! I remain a diehard Marvel fan, and there’s very little that’s going to knock me from my perch. Judge me if you will, but I really enjoyed this fourth Captain America film.

Movie Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good

Falcon and the Winter Soldier is probably my second favorite of the Marvel Studios TV shows. I thought it was an awesome show, with great themes, characters and more. Exploring African American history through the lens of Captain America was a great idea, and I think that show pulled it off nicely. So I was very much looking forward to Sam Wilson getting his own Cap movie. And while I know a lot of people are sour on this movie for some reason, I had a blast.

Let’s Start This Week with Some Sweet Marvel Trailers

I’m not going to become a doom and gloom blog and I’m not going to let my newfound nihilism hamper my love of pop culture. I bought both the LEGO X-Mansion and Bumblebee sets this weekend, and have collected all of Chip Zdarsky’s critically acclaimed Daredevil run. So retail therapy has been helpful.

What’s also helpful is that a couple of new, awesome Marvel trailers came out this weekend from a Disney event in Brazil! I remain an ardent MCU fanboy and am very much looking forward to next year’s plethora of content.

First up is Captain America: Brave New World.

Looks awesome! After that first trailer and the positive response, Marvel clearly invested in some good trailer people. I like the political intrigue. Red Hulk looks fun. They do some good work with Sam Wilson flying everywhere. I have a lot of high hopes for this one.

Captain America 4: Brave New World comes out on Feb. 14.

Next up is Thunderbolts*, which I’m even more excited about.

Thunderbolts* is like the first Avengers film. We take all of these random characters from the past few movies and shows and then bring them together and let them banter and bounce off one another. They’re not as famous as the Avengers characters, but it’s going to work for me if they have fun with it. These are the grungy, grimy Avengers and these are some great characters to use.

Thunderbolts* comes to theaters on May 2.

Captain America: Brave New World Trailer Just Randomly Arrives!

They missed the Fourth of July by one week!

Anyway, I had no idea this “teaser” trailer was coming out today, but I’m glad for it! I remain a Marvel diehard, and have full faith in Captain America: Brave New World. I loved The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and I’m excited to see what happens next.

This trailer was awesome! It’s so well put together, and I love a trailer like that. We’ve got all the building blocks for this opening mystery, we’ve got some good stuff between Sam Wilson and the president. Then the action picks up. And the trailer doesn’t shy away from comparing Sam to Steve Rogers. That’s a plus and will hopefully help people get on board. And having Harrison Ford in your movie trailer can’t hurt.

Also, Red Hulk confirmed! Though if they were going to reveal him in this trailer, I think they could have done a better job than that glimpse.

Captain America: Brave New World comes out on Feb. 14!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/31/15

Happy Halloween! I hope all you ghosts, ghouls and superheroes have a lot of fun today! Halloween is my favorite holiday because of the insanely awesome pageantry involved. It’s just so much fun! Too bad we didn’t get any spooky comics this week…at least not in my regular pile. I should start reading Wytches maybe.

Word of note, before we begin: there won’t be any reviews next Saturday! Yours truly is going on vacation to London next week, and I won’t get any comics! I’ll still try to get some videos up, and a couple Lists of Six, but we’re skipping comic reviews next week. It’s for the best.

Fortunately, this week was pretty darn good. Batgirl #45 wins Comic Book of the Week for a lovely wedding issue.

Let’s make the magic happen!

Always good to see more diverse weddings and love stories in comics! We’ve come a long way since Northstar got married.

Comic Reviews: Angela: Queen of Hel #1, Batgirl #45, Batman and Robin Eternal #4, Chewbacca #2, Grayson #13, Sam Wilson: Captain America #2 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1.
