The 6 Best Cameos on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Fair warning, I’m feeling especially adorable this week. Want to know the geekiest show on television? It’s not Big Bang Theory. Nor is it Game of Thrones. The title has to go to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! Not only is it a cartoon that has taken fandom by storm, but it is clearly produced by some giddy geeks.

Prepare for horse puns. So many horse puns

What makes me say this? How about the simple fact that they’ve taken a cartoon about cutesy, colorful ponies and filled it with more pop culture references and background jokes than your average episode of Family Guy! And at My Little Pony, they’re actually clever about it.¬†Clearly for the sheer fun of it, the people behind My Little Pony love showing off their geek cred.

Join me after the jump for the 6 best pop culture character cameos on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic!

6 Fan-Made Characters That Were Embraced by the Real Creators

Do you remember Gary the Gray Power Ranger, the one who drove Titanus? Or what about Dustin the Animorph-Controller, who was both one of the good guys and one of the bad guys? Or Jedi Padawan Tasher Jaken? No? You don’t? Well don’t worry, you shouldn’t remember them. They never existed, not in the real shows, books or movies anyway. They are all my own fan fiction creations. All 100% my own ideas.

Creating my own original characters to fit into existing franchises has always been one of my favorite writing hobbies. I was even naive enough once upon a time to think I had a chance of making them a reality, if only I could speak with the writers or creators.

Now I know better. I was fooling myself.

But seriously, who’s driving this thing?

Yet even though it never worked out for me, the dream isn’t so far-fetched. Sometimes the creators and professionals really do listen to their fans.¬†Sometimes that silly bit of fan fiction can take on a life of its own. Or maybe the fans will embrace a seemingly unimportant background character and adopt him or her like a mascot. It can happen. It has happened. I found six characters from TV, video games and movies that were – for the most part – created and embellished by the fans, only for the real creators to take notice and embrace these fan creations, bringing them into the real canon.

The My Little Pony-Con that Might Have Been

This picture is amazing, and clearly illustrates the world’s need for love, tolerance and ponies. Please make this happen, Hasbro–preferably in the United Kingdom.

This year’s Bronycon will be held in Secaucus, New Jersey from June 30 to July 1. So it starts on Saturday! Show creator Lauren Faust is going to be in attendance, along with several voice actors. Word has it that they’re also going to film a documentary about Brony culture at the convention!

It’s Not Easy Being a Brony

I’m a brony. And I’m not ashamed to admit it either. I love me some My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That show is awesome! But seeing as how I’m a 28-year-old man who lives alone, some might say this is not a good thing. Well to hell with them! The show kicks ass.

And I’m definitely not the only brony (or pegasister) in the world! Sing loud, my pony-loving friends! Sing strong!

The song was put together by a punch of people at a recent convention, I think. Check out the Youtube credits.

Also, for anyone following along from my earlier List of Six this morning, my car is fine! It was fixed and is back on the road!
