John Wick 5? Nah, Just Ballerina

We knew this was coming, and here it is: Ballerina, a spin-off movie from the world of John Wick. In fact, that might be the full title of the movie — From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. That’s an even worse mouthful than “A Knives Out Mystery.”

Looks fun. While I enjoy the John Wick movies as action films, I am not in love with them like some fans. I didn’t care for John Wick 4. But this perhaps means Ballerina will be all action and less John Wick mythology? I dunno. It looks action packed. It also looks like a simple attempt to just make another John Wick movie. At least Ana De Armas is awesome.

Ballerina comes to theaters June 6.

The Continental Doesn’t Look Half Bad

I still think it’s a little bit of a stretch to make a TV show about the hotel from John Wick. But Hollywood can spend their money on whatever they want, I’ll probably watch. This trailer looks pretty cool as an action, gunfire sort of show set in the 1970s. That’s a solid premise.

I’ll try to give The Continental a watch. I wonder if it’s gonna end with a baby John Wick coming into the hotel. We’ll see. Again, it looks like a perfectly fun action show. And it’s only 3 episodes long. That works for me.

The Continental comes to Peacock on Sept. 22.

John Wick vs. Tetris

This has been a huge week for movie trailers. And these are no different!

First up is a big new trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4. This will probably be a big, awesome film with awesome action and an awesome Keanu Reeves at its center. Lotsa guns, lotsa fighting, lotsa action; it’s a John Wick movie.

This movie and trailer strike me as so weird, sometimes, when you consider how this franchise started. John Wick was working as a hitman for some lowly Russian gangster in a single city. Was he slumming it with that guy? Have they ever talked about it in any of the sequels?

Ah well, doesn’t matter. The new one should be fun. John Wick: Chapter 4 comes to theaters on March 24.

Next up is a new trailer for a film we didn’t know was coming: a Tetris biopic!

I love Tetris as much as the next person. I hope this is a cool and exciting story! An American with a dream about Tetris goes to Russia to get his hands on the ultimate video game. Looks pretty exciting and full of action. Maybe it’ll be the best video game adaptation movie of all time.

Tetris is coming to AppleTV+ on March 31.

I Don’t Remember What’s Happening in John Wick 4

I like the John Wick movies. Who doesn’t? But I really think they’ve lost the forest for the trees. What’s the story anymore? Does anybody remember off the top of their heads? The first movie worked so perfectly, where a retired hitman came back to go on a murderous rampage after idiots killed his dog. It was great! But where are we now? Who was Halle Berry’s character?

Anyway, they’re right back at it with John Wick 4!

I mean, I’ll definitely go see this movie. They’ve all been pretty good. But the lore is really weighing down John Wick’s character, in my opinion. His family sits at the table? Are we about to meet John Wick’s parents and learn that they’re the ones in charge of the whole management level of assassins? It’s like finding out Jack Sparrow’s dad was in charge of all pirate lore.

Ah well, make of it all what you will. John Wick 4 comes out on March 24.

Just, Like, a Bunch of New Movie Trailers

I don’t know what’s happening, but a ton of new movie trailers came out this past week. Avengers: Endgame is a month away. Are they gearing up to go before Us? Maybe!

Also, a surprising number of these trailers feature Ian McShane. Good for him!

First, here’s a trailer for John Wick 3: Parabellum.

I don’t know what the subtitle is about. Why does John Wick 3 need an awkward, cumbersome word tacked onto the end? Either way, it’ll hopefully be a fun film. They managed to stretch the first John Wick into one sequel, let’s see if they can do it for a threequel!

Next up is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Quentin Tarantino makes good movies and this one should be no different!

Lastly, there’s finally a trailer for the finally made Deadwood movie on HBO! How insane is it that this actually exists?

Deadwood is a great TV show that ended with a stilted third season. They were ramping up for something big, then HBO pulled the plug and left the show and viewers dangling in the cold. Now, seemingly against all odds, they’ve all come back for a wrap-up movie a decade or so later. It’s madness!

But you’re damn right I’m gonna watch, you hoopleheads!
