Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/29/14

I’ve come to the realization that I just don’t read a lot of DC Comics anymore. I feel like I was reading a ton of them only a few months ago. But I do have a tendency to drop comics I’m not liking anymore. I haven’t touched an issue of Batman and Robin since they took out the Robin element. I gave up the various Justice Leagues after they all became uninteresting Forever Evil tie-ins. And I’m only reading about half of the Green Lantern franchise books these days It’s just weird. I feel kind of bad. I want to give DC more attention…but nope! The only review it gets this week is Aquaman!

Though I am looking forward to Geoff Johns taking over Superman. Maybe he has the magic touch and can finally give Superman a strong voice in the New 52. Though honestly, Greg Pak has been writing an amazing little story over in Action Comics. I should review one of those issues.

But for now, it’s almost all Marvel this week! We’ve got the first issues of Ghost Rider, Iron Patriot and the highly anticipated Silver Surfer! There’s also a new Hawkeye, and it’s as great as Hawkeye has always been, but everything pales in comparison this week to Superior Spider-Man #30! The biggest chapter so far in Goblin Nation is the Comic Book of the Week and earns my first ever perfect score of 10/10! It’s that damn good!

And we’ve still got one more issue of Superior Spider-Man and Goblin Nation to go!

Comic Reviews: All-New Ghost Rider #1, Aquaman #29, Hawkeye #18, Iron Patriot #1, Silver Surfer #1 and Superior Spider-Man #30.

Ghost Rider Gets a Sweet New Ride!

We were teased about this during New York Comic-Con when the new Ghost Rider series was announced, but here is the proof that the new Ghost Rider is going to ditch the motorcycle and instead take up hot rods! I’m a big fan of this idea. I know Ghost Rider looks awesome on a motorcycle, but sometimes writers need to really think outside the box.

The covers are drawn by Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore.

For those who don’t know, the new Ghost Rider will be Robbie Reyes, a high school senior in East Los Angeles who loves cars and has lived a pretty tough life so far. Writer Felipe Smith told CBR that, “In comparison to previous Ghost Riders, he’s young and inexperienced in life; but his harsh inner city upbringing, overall distrust for most people, and serious contempt for his violent surroundings make him the perfect host for a Spirit of Vengeance.”

I really think I’m going to give this series a look when the first issue shows up. Looks pretty sweet so far.

The Ghost Rider Game We All Wish We Had

I have nothing but respect and admiration for people who make awesome video game mods. Like turning the protagonist from Grand Theft Auto 4 into Ghost Rider, complete with flaming skull, fire breath and car explosions.

But seriously, one dude on his computer is able to make a better Ghost Rider video game than any of the ones made by real companies as movie tie-in games. That’s shameful on those companies. But then I’m a big proponent of just sticking superheroes in a GTA-esque world and letting them run free. It worked for Spider-Man, it worked for the Incredible Hulk; it’ll work for any superhero!
