Batman/Deadpool Crossover Incoming!
There have been some rumblings in the comicsphere about a new Marvel and DC crossover in the works, and now the word is official: It’s a Batman/Deadpool crossover! Neat. I’m all for it. I don’t think those two characters have ever crossed over before, so at least the concept will be new. And I’m always in favor of Marvel and DC working together.
So there will be two comics, one from each company, and they’ve pulled out all the stops for the creators. Marvel will go first with Deadpool/Batman with the likes of filmmaker Kevin Smith, Chip Zdarsky, Kelly Thompson, Adam Kubert, Terry Dodson, Gurihiru, Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo doing stories and artwork. So holy heck that’s a quality team. That issue will come out in September.
Then DC will produce Batman/Deadpool in November, written by Grant freakin’ Morrison, with artwork by Dan Mora, which is about as insane a team as you could ever imagine on a comic these days. I don’t even know if Morrison still writes comics? What have they been up to the past few years? And Mora is a machine!
This is all super keen!

I’m Probably Gonna Have to Buy These Too
There’s a new crossover comic coming out these days between the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s a sequel to their first crossover, which I read and enjoyed. I haven’t read any of the issues yet, because I’ll probably wait and get the trade paperback. That’s how I roll with this sort of thing.
Then the cover for a future issue hit the internet and blew my ’80s/’90s geeky little mind. How did I not see this coming?
The art is by Dan Mora and just look at this beautiful image! The Ninja Turtles get their own Dimension X Power Rangers outfits, but the real draw is the Power Rangers mutated into their dinosaurs! Are you freakin’ kidding me? How cool does this look?!
The worst part is that I just know I’m not gonna be able to resist buying the inevitable action figures. How do I know this? Because I already bought the action figures from the first crossover, with the Turtles morphed as Rangers. I bought them all. Shredder as the Green Ranger. Leo, Donnie, Mikey, Raph and April as the Rangers. Tommy as a Foot Soldier. Jeez louise. It was a time when I had some extra money on hand and I just…spent it on action figure nonsense. Now they’re in a box somewhere in storage, because I wasn’t about to open them and play with them.
So yeah, sigh. When I see action figures of the Power Rangers morphed into mutant dinosaurs, how will I be able to resist?

Sadly, That Glorious Silver Batman Costume is Not Real
The internet got hyped the other day when DC Comics revealed this new costume for the Caped Crusader as part of the upcoming Batman #100. It also made its first proper appearance in this week’s Batman #95, though only for a single panel.
As expected, the internet comic fandom lost their minds at the idea of their beloved Batman in this glorious silver fashion explosion. Personally, I thought it looked pretty neat, but didn’t worry too much else about it. Then DC Comics’ official Twitter put out a Tweet that suggested this costume was something real and permanent going forward, and suddenly my interest was piqued!
Is this really something DC is going to do? Something new and exciting with the Dark Knight?
Nope. The internet became so bothered that current Batman comic writer James Tynion IV got on Twitter and quickly explained that this costume will only exist as part of a dream sequence in an upcoming story.
Which is fine. I guess.
But…but what if…what if that costume was real? What if DC’s promise of a “New Batsuit. New Villains. New Gotham.” was a legitimate promise of an entirely new style and direction going forward after Joker War and issue #100? What if this glorious image was real and this got to be our Batman for a the foreseeable future?!
I don’t know what this wonderful world would look like. It’s not my job to design the next generation’s Batman. But just imagine how funky it could be!
In the comics, Bruce Wayne just lost his billions. Alfred is dead. The Robins are estranged. He’s about to have a pretty final-feeling confrontation with the Joker. Man…just imagine the places Tynion could go! Maybe this is a costume that Batman wears out during the day! Maybe he’s more open about helping the community. Maybe he’s healing some of her personal demons!
Maybe he gets a new Robin? With a costume to match? Just throwing that out there…
But nope. This is just for a dream sequence, which is a shame. The future could have been so silver…
Oh, also, while I’m imbedding Tweets, comic book artist Dan Mora designed a Power Rangers version of Batman and Robin!
And he’s got some other superhero Power Rangers crossovers in his Twitter feed. Check them out, they’re pretty fun!
