Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/30/17

Comic Convention Season is almost over! Tomorrow I will be selling Gamer Girl & Vixen at Uticon in lovely Utica, NY, so if you live in the area, stop on by! For now, though, I’m reading regular comics!

Plenty of fun entries this week, from the proper return of Tim Drake in Detective Comics to the return of Volstagg in The Mighty Thor. But Comic Book of the Week goes to the new issue of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for some great character moments, great monsters and a great twist ending!

Goth Sloth 01

Beware the Goth Sloth!

I also read the first issue of Marvel Legacy, and it was fine. It’s mostly just a big tease for all of Marvel’s upcoming storylines, and some of them look fine. None of them tickle my fancy, so I just hope we get some good stories out of them. I don’t particularly like this 1,000,000 BC Avengers, even if it’s slightly clever. And the less said about the real Wolverine’s “return” the better.

I can’t have missed you if you never went away, Old Man!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/26/17

You know what I love to do on vacation? Nothing! Flame Con was a huge success last weekend for Gamer Girl & Vixen, and I had a super fun time in New York City. But now I’m just living out the rest of my vacation in calm and solitude. Gotta love that.

Had some great comics this week, from new Power Rangers to Harley Quinn, and a somewhat disappointing new issue of Chip Zdarsky’s Spider-Man. Not sure what happened there. Comic Book of the Week goes to the new Iceman, which is turning out to be a remarkably well-built comic.

Take that, Daken! You’re terrible!

Secret Empire is almost over, thankfully. It’s worn out it’s welcome. Nick Spencer now seems to just be narrating what amounts to just a giant battle of superheroes punching goons. It’ll all be over soon and we can move on with our lives.

Comic Reviews: Batgirl #14, Harley Quinn #26, Iceman #4, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #18 and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #3.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/29/17

Light week this week, for no good reason. I guess I just didn’t read enough comics I liked enough to review! But we’ve got solid and exciting issues of Iceman, Detective Comics and Infamous Iron Man, so that’s good enough for me.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batgirl #13, as Hope Larson delivers possibly my favorite issue yet of her Batgirl run! She’s definitely having fun with this comic, and it shows!

Secret Empire has reached a grinding section. There are bits and pieces here and there that get exciting, like the final page cliffhanger of the new issue, but overall, I think the scope of this story is just a little too big. It feels like I’m reading a big What If…? comic instead of an actual, in-continuity story about these characters.

Comic Reviews: Batgirl #13, Detective Comics #961, Iceman #3 and Infamous Iron Man #10.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/1/17

Happy Fourth of July weekend, everybody! We’ve got a bunch of good comics this week, and I’ve got a day off from work on Tuesday, so I’m in all manner of good spirits. We’ve got some quality Spider-Man and Batman comics this week, which is always a hoot. And Comic Book of the Week goes to another stellar Infamous Iron Man. I’m just loving that comic!

Ben Sarcasm 01

Most I’ve liked Ben Grimm in years!

I skipped a double dose of Young Jean Grey this week. Her solo series was just a team-up with Prince Namor, who I don’t care for. And X-Men Blue was pretty interesting, but I swear to God, if Cullen Bunn brought Jimmy Hudson into that book just to revive the Cyclops/Jean Grey/Wolverine love triangle then I am done with that comic. Full stop.

And So There is a Duke Thomas Action Figure I Gotta Have

Toy Fair was this past weekend, and while once again I did not attend, I could very much salivate over all the pictures and good action figure news I found online! Among the good news was this stellar Duke Thomas as Robin action figure that I now gotta have.

As a major Robin fan, I’m so far OK with Duke Thomas as Batman’s new partner. I’m not thrilled that he’s Yellow Batman Junior instead of Robin, but I’m hoping DC and their creative people go somewhere good with this. He’s Robin in everything but name.

Fortunately, DC decided to make an action figure of Duke in his badass, helmeted Robin costume instead of his Yellow Batman Junior jumpsuit.

You may recall that I ranked this costume as my third favorite Robin costume of all time! There’s just something about that awesome helmet/jacket combination that tickles my pinks. It’s a perfect modern Robin costume, though I’ll admit it probably doesn’t go as well with the classic Batman costume as the regular modern Robin costume does. But it was great for Duke Thomas and We Are Robin, so I’mma gonna get it.

I’ll try to find this sweet Batgirl action figure too.

I’m a little disappointed in myself that I don’t yet have a sweet Batgirl of Burnside action figure. I love that comic.
