Iron Man to Appear on Arrow — Oh No, Wait…

So, uh…here’s the first look at Brandon Routh’s Atom on the TV show Arrow.

The poor man’s Robert Downey Jr.

Remind you of anyone else? Like, in a clearly obvious, almost wincing kind of way? Like, in a way that The CW might be paying more attention to Marvel’s movie success than DC’s?

Keep in mind that the Atom, whose super-power is shrinking, does not wear armor like this in the comic. He wears a normal, ordinary spandex superhero costume. The armor has been created for the show. So…uh…does DC Comics know they’re doing this?

Also, way to put zero effort into protecting your secret identity, pal.

Arrow is Treating Sidekicks Right

How great is Arrow these days? The drama is intense, the characters are as strong as ever, and Oliver’s fight with R’as al Ghul was a highpoint of the entire series. But you know what I’m loving the most? Roy Harper, the sidekick!

Arrow is doing almost everything I could possibly want from a superhero sidekick on live action TV.

The awesome costume is a big plus

I never thought we would see the day. I never in my wildest dreams imagined Arrow would follow through with the introduction of Roy Harper and turn him into a solid, successful superhero in his own right. Granted, Roy Harper is kind of a train wreck in the comics, and there is plenty of time for the show to go down that route. But right now, Arsenal is the sidekick superhero I’ve dreamed about.

If only Arrow was actually about Batman and Robin, but we don’t live in a perfect world.

Besides, it’s been done

The only thing Arrow needs to do now is push Arsenal one step further and make it so that he isn’t a complete failure  just because Oliver isn’t around.

6 More Potential Shows for the Arrow-Verse

Word hit the Internet this week that not only will the superhero Vixen be joining the same TV universe as Arrow and The Flash, but that producers are considering the Atom for their next spin-off. Clearly the people at Warner Bros. can recognize success, and they want to bank as much as possible on their winning superhero formula. Marvel is building a shared superhero universe in the movies, so it looks like DC is going to do the same on TV.

I’m all for it! I love both Arrow and The Flash, and I would love to see more heroes jump to the small screen. I think I’m even more excited for the potential of a small screen Justice League than I am for whatever big screen version that Warner Bros. is trying to develop.

This is totally gonna be a thing!

Beyond Arrow, The Flash and the new Vixen cartoon, there’s also talk that upcoming shows about Supergirl and the Teen Titans will be part of the same universe (or at least there were, stupid CBS!). Clearly DC shows no sign of slowing down. But what other shows can they produce?

This is one of my favorite List of Six games, and I invite all of you to join me in coming up with some great ideas. What other superheroes could get shows to tie into the Arrow-Verse? The only rules are that they must fit the aesthetic of the Arrow-Verse, so super-powers are OK, but keep things grounded and gritty. And they can’t be Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, because the universe is still partially a terrible place, and those characters are apparently only going to appear in the movies.

So join me after the jump to see my ideas. And join me in the comments to share some of your own!

New Vixen Cartoon to Join the Arrow-Verse!

The Arrow-Verse just keeps getting bigger, it seems! Not only has The Flash debuted to strong ratings, and not only are both Supergirl and Teen Titans rumored to be joining, but a new cartoon series starring Vixen has been confirmed for the Fall! The show will air online only, it seems, but both Arrow and Flash will make guest appearances.

They all actually look pretty neat animated

Vixen was announced at the Television Critic’s Association press tour over the weekend, alongside renewals for new seasons of Arrow and The Flash. The cartoon will be about Mari McCabe, the hero with the power to copy the abilities of animals. Vixen can jump like a frog, run like a cheetah or swim like a fish.

Sounds like a solid idea for a new show to me!

So does having the abilities of a bird somehow turn her arms into wings capable of flight?

There are also rumors that The CW might add a new live action TV show starring The Atom. Brandon Routh has been a major guest-star on Arrow this season as Ray Palmer, and he’s going to don his shrinking superhero guise sometime in the latter half of Season 3. Would that make him spin-off worthy? You bet’cha!

My only concern is that the white male is in consideration for a live action TV show, while the black woman is getting relegated to an online cartoon show. What’s the matter, CW? Can only white men star in your live action superhero universe?

Hopefully, at the very least, they hire a real actress so Vixen can guest star on Arrow and The Flash at some point. They definitely need more female members of the off-kilter Justice League they’re building.

A Live Action Captain Boomerang Will Be a Thing

Someone somewhere has decided that a man whose claim to fame is throwing boomerangs will pose much more of a challenge to a man who shoots arrows instead of a man with super speed. In other words, Captain Boomerang will appear on Arrow in Season 3 instead of The Flash.

He’ll also be played by Nick Tarabay, of Spartacus, according to Entertainment Weekly.

At least one of them is Australian

Though according to the article, he’ll be part of the two show crossover coming up this fall, so maybe that’s something.

I watched Spartacus, and it was really good. Tarabay played the jackass, so I bet he’d make a good villain. He seems like he has the cocky smarm to play someone like Captain Boomerang. Also according to the article, the Cap’n will be a former ARGUS operative who’s possibly gone rogue. New Suicide Squad member, perhaps?

I only hope the boomerang effects are as good as the bow and arrow effects.
