Rings of Power Season 2 Looks Awesome

I really enjoyed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It was cool, epic, had great prequel-esque moments and was a lot of fun. So I’m definitely excited for season 2, especially with such an awesome Comic-Con trailer.

This looks damn cool! And now that we’ve got Sauron and the Rings of Power revealed, it feels even more attached to LOTR lore. So I’m totally in! I especially enjoyed the halfling and the mysterious stranger, and it’ll be fun to see their story continue. It’ll be fun to see this whole show continue!

The Rings of Power season 2 comes to Amazon Prime on Aug. 29!

Some Sweet DC Comic-Con Trailers

Today is the last day of San Diego Comic-Con, and I’m sure they’ve got some big news coming out. Will anything top what Marvel Studios revealed last night? Who knows! But DC put out a couple of really awesome trailers I wanted to share. There’s a whole bunch of trailers from the event, but I’m gonna sparse them out.

First up is a new trailer for The Penguin, which still looks like an awesome, gritty crime drama, which is exactly what I want this show to be.

I wish we had more references to Batman in this trailer, because he should be a presence in this movie, but I’ll take what I can get. Cristin Milioti looks awesome of Sophia Falcone, and it sounds like they’re doing a bit of The Hangman storyline. Should be a blast! And Colin Farrell looks crazy good!

The Penguin is coming to Max on Sept. 19.

Then we got the first trailer for Creature Commandos, the animated series that kicks off James Gunn’s new DC Universe! And it looks great, as far as I’m concerned.

Looks fun, looks wacky, looks like what I’d expect Creature Commandos to look like. So I’m jazzed for this show. and I’m jazzed to see some of these characters appear in live action afterwards, like Rick Flagg Sr. joining the second season of Peacemaker. So these are definitely some shows I’m looking forward to watching later this year!

Creature Commandos is coming to Max in December.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/27/24

Happy Comic-Con Week, everybody! So much going on! So much news! DC All In! Some other stuff. I’m sure it’s a lot. Thankfully, we’ve got good comics to enjoy like Power Rangers and Void Rivals.

Comic Book of the Week goes to NYX #1 for a truly unique energy and premise to this new X-Men comic, at least in the current climate of things.

Kamala is forever cool

Meanwhile, I saw Deadpool & Wolverine Thursday night and it was fun. I don’t think it’s as strong as the first two Deadpool movies because it was more focused on cameos and Easter Eggs than having a rock solid story, but such was the choice. I’ll probably have my full thoughts and review up by Wednesday!

Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #122, NYX #1 and Void Rivals #11.

Comic-Con Kicks Off with Transformers One, Joker 2 Trailers

Comic-Con is in full swing and that means we’re going to get all sorts of new trailers and info and tidbits and reveals and whatnot. I’m going to start things off on this Friday with sharing two new movie trailers that came out this week: Transformers One and Joker: Folie a Deux.

This is the second Transformers One trailer and let’s see if you can spot the difference from the first one.

This trailer is much, much lighter on the Keegan-Michael Key comedy bits and far, far heavier on the Transformers lore stuff. Interesting choice! I bet that was a pretty blatant course correction. This trailer looks much better, I think. Turning the Transformers into a silly, kiddie buddy comedy was a choice, and the movie is probably still that. But now we can see it’s also about the birth of the Decepticons and Megatron’s descent into evil. That’s probably a stronger selling point for the Comic-Con crowd. Also, the humor in the first trailer was trying desperately to be Mutant Mayhem and failing spectacularly, so best to just put that behind them.

Transformers One comes to theaters on Sept. 20.

Then we’ve got Joker 2, which looks good, but I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it.

I didn’t really care for the first Joker movie. It was dark and misanthropic, which was the point, but wasn’t my kind of movie. You also can’t convince me it wasn’t purposefully made for the edgelords out there, to some degree. But these sequel trailers have looked pretty darn cool. They’re very well made trailers, so at least the sequel has that going for it.

Joker: Folie a Deux comes to theaters on Oct. 4.

The 6 Characters in My Dark X-Men (From the Ashes)

Happy Comic-Con, everyone! The greatest comic book show on Earth is taking place in San Diego this week, and once again, I’m not there. Someday I’ll go, when I’m old and gray and can’t walk good. But until then, I’ll keep alive my tradition of posting a dream comic book team roster! Because it’s just plain fun.

This year I’m doing my Dark X-Men team pitch for the new From the Ashes relaunch.

Dress code is very lax

I do this every year because I love thinking up superhero comics. Someday I’ll get to pitch a team book to Marvel or DC or real, and I’ll have all of these past years to look back on. Last year I did the Legion of Super-Heroes, and I’ve previously done the Brotherhood, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Thunderbolts, the Justice League, the main X-Men, the Fantastic Four and more Dream Rosters. It’s a fun game!

This year is my pitch for a From the Ashes comic. In the wake of the Krakoa Era of the X-Men, Marvel has relaunched with a back-to-basics approach. We’ve got the X-Men, the Uncanny X-Men, a new X-Factor, a new X-Force; all sorts of comics! If I could go back in time and pitch Marvel editorial on a From the Ashes comic, it would be the Dark X-Men you’ll see below!

Join me after the jump for the six characters I would put together in a Dark X-Men comic for From the Ashes!
