The Boys is Legit Going to Be A Show This Summer!

The Boys by Garth Ennis is a pretty wild and entertaining comic, filled with his usual raunchiness. And following the popularity of Preacher, Seth Rogen is using his fame and fortune to make adaptations of his favorite comics. I have so much respect for that man.

Rogen shared this teaser trailer today.

Not much to see specifically, but the fact that it’s happening is going to be awesome! I look forward to watching. You should also check out the comic. The Boys is about a squad of angry, violent, but generally altruistic punks who work in secret to keep the bigger, more popular and far more depraved superheros in line.

6 Thoughts on the Second Season of The Punisher

The second and probably last season of The Punisher arrived on Netflix this past weekend, and after binging the whole thing, I’m ready for the Netflix Defenders shows to end. It was a fine experiment, there’s some decent TV on the whole, but let’s move on.

punisher season 2 list 01

TV Show Rating: 4/10 – Pretty Bad

I should preface this whole post with a warning to take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I’ve only ever been a moderate Punisher fan, but I hold Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX comic as one of the greatest comic book runs of all time. I reread nearly all 10+ volumes at least once a year, I love it so much. So when it comes to reviewing anything new about the Punisher, I am hugely biased in one certain direction.

And for the second season in a row, The Punisher TV show on Netflix is nothing like Punisher MAX. The show is its own thing, and I can respect that. I’d like it even more if that own thing was good. But as we’ll discuss, I didn’t care for this season.

Join me after the jump for my thoughts on The Punisher season 2! Feel free to share your own review in the comments. And be aware of FULL SPOILERS for the entire show.

I Want Black Panther to Win the Oscar for Best Picture

Black Panther was one of eight movies nominated for the Best Picture Oscar this morning, and some people out there across the internet don’t think it deserves the nomination. I’m here to ask them and you: so what? Can’t we all just rally around a superhero movie to win Best Picture, regardless of quality? The Oscars are largely a joke anyway. Why can’t we come together to get this superhero movie win?

MLD-01496_R.JPG

I loved Black Panther when it came out, though I will admit that my praise has probably waned since. But it’s still a solid, enjoyable movie that had a major cultural impact.

And it’s the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture. Can’t that be enough? We all love superhero movie. We all love Marvel Studios movies. And none of us really super care about the Oscars. Can we not all just come together and root for the superhero movie to get the win?

Cast aside your demands that the Oscar for Best Picture truly go to the best movie from 2018. Are any of the eight nominees really the best movie? Are any of the front runners really so worthy of the award that they have to win? Surely Black Panther is better than at least some of them. It’s better than Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody, surely.

And it’s not like the Oscars aren’t rigged or anything. It’s not like they’re some great noble event where only the purest and most worthy films are awarded. It’s all just a bunch of Academy idiots who don’t see all the movies voting on them anyway. The Oscars aren’t real.

So as comic book fans and superhero movie fans, let us set aside our lofty expectations for the purity of the Oscars and root for Black Panther to win big!

Though if I’m being honest, I’d probably go with BlacKkKlansmen to win Best Picture, and I haven’t seen Roma, A Star is Born or The Favourite yet. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for Best Animated Feature for sure, but when it doesn’t win, then I’ll be vindicated in my claim that the Oscars aren’t real.

Let’s See That Great Into the Spider-Verse Scene in LEGO!

Remember that scene in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse where Miles Morales truly embraces his new Spider-Man persona? Set to that awesome “What’s Up Danger?” song by Blackway & Black Caviar? Of course you do!

Well the fine folks at Huxley Burg Studios have recreated it in LEGO form!

And if you don’t remember that scene at all, it’s conveniently available on YouTube! How’s that for nifty?

That’ll have to tide us over until Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes out on DVD one of these days.

gen:Lock Comes Out on Saturday!

Are you henchies big fans of Rooster Teeth? I used to watch Red vs. Blue back in the day, but lost track in the later, wilder seasons. And I’ve been devouring Achievement Hunter stuff over the past year. That’s my jam and helped me to understand the draw power of Let’s Play video game videos.

So I really wanna check out their hotly anticipated new anime, gen:Lock!

It’s a bunch of big name actors voicing a giant robot fighting cartoon! From the geniuses at Rooster Teeth! Sounds like a winning formula and I hope to check out a couple episodes. Just gotta consider signing up for their premium service.
