Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/12/21

It’s the week of weeks! What week is that? Why…this week, obviously. I’m getting more sleep now so I’m feeling better, so at least there’s that. Plenty of fun comics this week, from the finale to Far Sector to a couple more solid chapters of the Hellfire Gala!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Morphin #8 because, as is usually the case, I love this comic and everything in it. Maybe I just love any iteration of the Green Power Ranger too much.

The Dragonzord is kicking so much butt!

Meanwhile, the first episode of Loki has arrived and it was really fun! I like the set-up, I like the characters and actors, and I think this is going to be a really neat show. Likewise, Heroes Reborn remains really neat! Probably my favorite Big Event from Marvel in a while.

Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #1037, Far Sector #12, Mighty Morphin #8, Strange Academy #11, Excalibur #21, X-Men #21 and Children of the Atom #4.

Jameela Jamil to Kick She-Hulk Butt!

Some fun casting news arrived yesterday! According to Variety, Jameela Jamil has been cast as the villain Titania for the upcoming She-Hulk TV show. Jamil was awesome on The Good Place and I’m very excited about the She-Hulk show, so this is great news all around!

We already know that Tatiana Maslany will play She-Hulk, with guest appearances from Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Tim Roth as the Abomination. So it’s cool that She-Hulk will get her own arch enemy to knock around. Word has it that the TV show Titania will be an influencer, which is fine for a character in 2021/2022. Titania’s origins in the comics aren’t going to happen in the MCU anytime soon, so I’m all for them changing what needs to be changed.

Titania has never been a very deep character. But she’s strong enough to fight She-Hulk, so she’s a fine addition to the show. And Jameela Jamil is pretty awesome, so this is some fine casting!

Space Jam Looks Bad; Free Guy Looks OK

Couple of movie trailers came out in the past day, so I’m here to share! Neither one is particularly exciting. But they’re big movies this summer and I’ll definitely be watching them in theaters. It’s what I do!

First up is Space Jam: A New Legacy. I have slightly high hopes for this film, because I love the original Space Jam. It was a big movie for me as a kid.

But that trailer looks terrible. First off, it looks like a mess. It looks like a vomit of shiny CGI in every direction. And the dialogue is as cringe as it gets. This is just a trailer and I winced through most of it. It’s crazy!

Space Jam: A New Legacy comes out on July 16.

Then there’s Free Guy, a movie with Ryan Reynolds that should be more fun.

This trailer was not as good as its first trailer. This one is focused more on just the wild visuals of the film, which thankfully are not as wild as those in Space Jam. But we’ll see. I have a little bit more faith in Free Guy and I hope it is justly rewarded.

Free Guy comes out on Aug. 13.

6 Weird Versions of Loki I Hope to See in the New TV Show

The Loki TV show debuted today on Disney+ and I’m very excited to watch. I’ve loved all of the Marvel Studios TV shows to date, and everyone is very pumped about Loki being the best yet. By all means, let’s hope for the best and enjoy the show!

Who is your TV show now?

Loki being Loki, and the nature of this show being weird as possible, means we might get some really weird Lokis along the way. How weird? I’m ready to get really weird. Because Loki is rarely just Loki in his comic book history. There are some really weird Lokis out there to enjoy. And I hope the new TV show finds a way to include a bunch of them, just to be as weird as possible. Will any of these happen? Maybe some. Should all of them happen? Heck yeah!

Join me after the jump for some weird and alternate versions of Loki that I hope pop up on his show!

Everybody Should Watch The Owl House

I just wanted to pass this trailer along as a friendly reminder that everybody should watch and enjoy The Owl House on Disney+. This is a cartoon I discovered late last year after deciding on a whim to give it a try. And it’s great! It’s funny, it’s creative, it’s badass when it wants to be; a solid, enjoyable cartoon adventure show.

The first season is fully available to watch, and the second season will kick off this Saturday, June 12. If you’re looking for a new cartoon to fill the void now that the likes of Adventure Time and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power are over, The Owl House is a solid choice!

Trust me, I know these things.
