All Other Sins Pale in Comparison to the Quicksilver Blunder
X-Men: Days of Future Past is a good X-Men flick, but it’s not perfect, as Cinema Sins will tell us. But really, there’s only one real blunder in the film: why the heck did the X-Men ditch Quicksilver after he proved himself to be incredibly useful?
Obviously, Quicksilver couldn’t come with them because he would have solved every single crisis in the movie in the blink of an eye. But why not come up with an explanation? Maybe he didn’t want to help the X-Men anymore, so he demanded that they let him go home? Nope, they just show them all parting ways, and that’s it.
Of course, we know now that Quicksilver was only in the film to stick it to Marvel, who put the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Apparently he was originally going to be Juggernaut. And yes, movie studios are that petty. Everybody and every thing is that petty.
And just for kicks, here’s the Honest Trailers version of Days of Future Past.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/8/14
Welcome to my vacation, hencharinos! I get two weeks off a year, and right now I’m at the start of my second, luxuriating at home with zero responsibilities and 100 relaxation points. It’s great! I’m going to kick up my feet, read some good comics, play some video games and hopefully see Big Hero Six before too long. I hear it’s great!
Comics were a little light this week for some reason, and very DC heavy. We’ve got new issues of Gotham Academy and Axis, the latter of which is getting a little better. And Grayson is great and wins Comic Book of the Week!
You can also check out my review of Amazing Spider-Man #9 over at Word of the Nerd. It’s an excellent start to Spider-Verse proper, and I’m really looking forward to that story now.
Comic Reviews: Axis #4, Batman Eternal #31, Gotham Academy #2, and Grayson #4.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/1/14
Happy Day-After-Halloween, henchies! Or better yet, Happy All Saints Day! I wonder if anybody in the world actually celebrates All Saints Day. I know I had to Google it to remember what November 1 was actually called. No worries if you don’t celebrate, but hopefully you have plenty of candy to tide you over.
This week was very light on new comics because it’s a Fifth Wednesday week. Comic publishers usually only plan for 4 Wednesdays a month, so when a fifth week comes along, they usually throw out some minor comics. DC put out a couple of annuals that I didn’t bother to read. But I did pick up All-New X-Men and Batman Eternal.
The week’s crowning jewel, however, is the final issue of Brian Azzarello’s Wonder Woman! He’s been telling one ongoing, epic saga since the start of the New 52, and it all comes to an end with this issue, the Comic Book of the Week!
Meanwhile, Marvel put out the first issue of their new Deathlok series. I wrote a pretty thorough review at Word of the Nerd that you can check out.
Comic Reviews: All-New X-Men #33, Batman Eternal #30 and Wonder Woman #35.
Channing Tatum is Officially Gambit, For Whatever That Will Accomplish
I’m still not entirely sure how or why this is happening, but actor Channing Tatum will officially play Gambit in a new X-Men spin-off film. The casting has been rumored for awhile now, but today, Deadline is confirming that Tatum is signed on to the role, with a film treatment penned by legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont. Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer has been hired to write the actual screenplay. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
But hey, Channing Tatum as Gambit, everybody!
I honestly don’t know what to think about this. I like Channing Tatum just fine. He’s good in the Jump Street movies. Is he right to play Gambit? I suppose he could be. I like Gambit too. As a child who grew up watching the 90s X-Men cartoon, I’ll always have a soft spot for Gambit. But I’m not a stickler who demands he be a suave, Cajun-accented pretty boy. Maybe Tatum will be fine as the character. Maybe the spin-off movie will be fine. I’m not sure why FOX thinks they can turn Gambit into a franchise the same way they have Wolverine, considering Gambit has only ever appeared in the worst of all the X-Men movies.
But hey, I’m not a Hollywood guy, so who knows what?

Whatever happened to holiday theme comics? Next week is Halloween, but I don’t know if there are any Halloween comics coming out! Whatever happened to those great comics about fighting giant pumpkin monsters? Or meeting demonic hell spirits? Or what about the greatest Halloween superhero adventure of all time? You henchies remember that one, right? Whatever the case may be, there isn’t nary a Halloween reference in any of this week’s haul!
But we’ve still got a pretty good haul. I picked up new issues of Aquaman and Harley Quinn, while also checking in with the ongoing craziness happening in Axis and Multiversity. One is a little more crazy than the other. I also picked up the first issue of the new Arkham Manor series…but I doubt I’ll be picking up any more. Fortunately, the latest issue in Jonathan Hickman’s ongoing Avengers saga is amazing! Avengers #37 easily scoops of Comic Book of the Week for the high quality, character-based drama!
You can also check out my coverage of the soon-to-be cancelled She-Hulk over at Word of the Nerd. That title should have survived for the Matt Rocks cameo alone!
Comic Reviews: Aquaman #35, Arkham Manor #1, Avengers #37, Axis #3, Batman Eternal #29, Harley Quinn #11, and Multiversity #3.
