Polaris Wins the X-Men Vote!

Turns out, Polaris is far more popular than I had any idea! And it turns out that Marvel was going to reveal the winner of the X-Men vote today!

I didn’t expect to get an answer until the Hellfire Gala itself. But huzzah for these fun little comics. Zeb Wells wrote the strip, with art by David Massini and Rachelle Cheri.

Polaris and the new squad will be part of an X-Men comic written by Gerry Duggan this summer, with art by Pepe Larrazz. I was hoping Jonathan Hickman would be writing the comic, but I’m sure Duggan will be fine.

Congrats to Polaris and her apparently many fans.

A Bunch More Good X-Men Also Did Not Get Picked

This week, Marvel has been rolling out more and more of these short strips about the X-Men characters who did not get voted on for membership in the new X-Men roster. I was mostly disappointed that Strong Guy did not make the cut. But there’s also Marrow and Armor.

And Tempo and Boom Boom.

And Sunspot and Cannonball.

C’mon, voting public! Nobody voted for Marrow, Armor, Boom Boom or Tempo? Those all would have been exciting choices for a the flagship X-Men team! We could have had some real shakeups!

Instead, the only remaining candidates are Polaris, who is already starring in X-Factor, and Banshee, who I would be fine with. I’ve always liked Banshee, and he’s been dead for a good long while. Having him back on an X-Men team would be pretty fun.

We’ll find out the winner at the Hellfire Gala in June!

Zeb Wells wrote all of these shorts, with colors by Rachelle Cheri and art by Emilio Laiso on the first one, Nico Leon on the second one and Diego Olortegui on the last one. These were all super fun! And, again, highlight the need for an X-Men anthology book that explores these minor characters on Krakoa. I think that would be fun!

Strong Guy is Not Going to be in the X-Men, You Cowards

Strong Guy has lost the vote for membership in the X-Men. That’s garbage. It was audience choice! We voted! And you people failed him! How incredibly disappointing. Marvel let us know with this fun mini-comic ahead of the Hellfire Gala.

At least the mini-comic is funny. And it features both Strong Guy and Multiple Man! That’s a major plus in my book. Still, what a disappointment. I should probably be upset with myself most of all. I didn’t do enough campaigning and glad-handing.

Also, did Jumbo Carnation not come up with one of those gorgeous outfits for Strong Guy? Or Is that sleeveless tuxedo what Jumbo came up with? Double also, they’re using Multiple Man as a waiter but didn’t get him any sort of party outfit at all? Just his classic uniform? This is the Hellfire Gala, people!

This great little mini-comic is by Zeb Wells, Mike Henderson and Rachelle Cheri.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/10/21

Well it’s happened. Almost one year to the day that I wrote a List of Six about why I should buy a Nintendo Switch…I bought a Nintendo Switch! Go me! There’s only a handful of games I want to play on the Switch. Hopefully they will be fun. It’ll be at least tomorrow before all the accessories I ordered arrive…so let’s focus on fun comics, like Batman and Green Lantern!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Runaways #35, because of course it does! Sweet jeebus, people, this comic is good! Runaways is, without a doubt, the best comic book in existence right now. It’s got great character development, fun stories and the biggest moments!

Mothers and their mutant daughters

Meanwhile, another banger episode of The Falcon and Winter Soldier. No spoilers, but I love what they’re doing with John Walker. You may recall I was head over heels for the character in that 2020 Force Works comic some time ago, and that positioned me to really love the complexities of Wyatt Russell’s performance! Can’t wait to see where this series goes next!

Comic Reviews: Batman #107, Green Lantern #1, Marauders #19 and Runaways #35.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/3/21

What a week! I got some dental work done on Monday and could only eat soft foods — so this big dummy just went out and bought a bunch of pudding and Jell-O cups. They’re not as tasty as I imagined. Thankfully, I had some really good Marvel comics this week! Like a new issue of The Union and X-Men!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Beta Ray Bill #1! I had high hopes for this new mini-series and this first issue blew them out of the water! I’m really looking forward to this adventure with the greatest comic book character in the world!

You can’t deny it

Meanwhile, Godzilla vs. Kong was pretty cool! I saw it on the big screen because movie theaters have reopened in my area, and I had a blast. As always, the moviemakers couldn’t seem to do squat with the human characters, but the monster battles were neat. The logic, script and monster height inconsistencies bugged the heck out of me, though.

Comic Reviews: Beta Ray Bill #1, The Union #4 and X-Men #19.
