6 Thoughts on the Avengers Academy Mobile Game
Once upon a time, superhero video games were a rare and sometime special occasion — especially if the game was any good. But now, superheroes are everywhere, and while we haven’t had that big budget, A-List Avengers console game, Marvel is going gangbusters in the mobile app market. There are fighting games, team-building games, card games and more, all advertising excellent superhero action.
I’m now a month deep into their latest offering, Avengers Academy, and I wanted to list out a little review.
Avengers Academy is a free-to-play city building game that recasts the Avengers as college or high school students. It’s a bright and colorful game that has you sending the Avengers on missions throughout the day, while buying new buildings to put on campus. At the moment, we’re right in the middle of the first big game event, featuring the Leader, A-Bomb and Red Hulk attacking the campus.
Avengers Academy is free to download from your mobile game store of choice. But join me after the jump to see whether or not you should.
My 6 Favorite Pokemon
There’s a new Pokemon gaming coming out this year! Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will be with us in due time, along with the announcements of the new starters and the reveal of the new roster of critters. This is an exciting time…and I’m not sure if I should be this excited. Honestly, I really, really don’t know where my love of Pokemon comes from…It’s just the same exact game every single time!
I first got into Pokemon back on the original Game Boy. I was on my way to a weekend summer camp, and my dad stopped by a store to pick up some supplies, and I bought a gaming magazine. I don’t even remember if it was about gaming in general or Pokemon specifically. But by the time I got home from camp, I knew I needed to go out and buy Pokemon. I picked Pokemon Blue, for reasons that will be apparent by the end of this list. I loved the game, and I’ve bought every new generation since. I don’t buy the tie-in stuff, like Pokemon Arena or Pokemon Rescue Squad, but I have always bought at least one half of the main games.
On two separate occasions, I went out and bought brand new handheld gaming consoles just so that I could play the new Pokemon game. Thankfully, Sun and Moon are still on the 3DS, so I don’t have to destroy my bank account again this year.
But in celebration of the new games, and for Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, I’ve dedicated this list to my top six favorite Pokemon of all time! Join me after the jump!
6 DC Superhero Games That Rocksteady Should Work On Next
Finally, at long last, I’ve played and beaten Batman: Arkham Knight. I made the decision to abandon video game consoles with the new generation and focus all my attention on PC and Steam…only for Arkham Knight to receive a PC adaptation that was so bad that Warner Bros. took it off the shelves and offered everyone a full refund, no questions asked. That’s about as bad as things can get.
But then I went and splurged on a new, high-end computer last Fall. And when I decided to take the plunge a few weeks ago and see how Arkham Knight held up on my machine, the game ran perfectly. You couldn’t even tell there’d ever been a problem.
So for the past few weeks, I’ve been kicking bad guy butt, hunting down the Scarecrow, and finally living that great, glorious dream that all my console friends had already experienced. I enjoyed the game well enough. The story wasn’t the best and I felt too many parts were ‘on rails’, where the game just pointed you in the direction they wanted and gave you the button prompt to enact the next little thing they put in front of you. And there were far too many gadgets and combos to keep track of in the otherwise stellar fighting sequences.
But overall, I enjoyed the game, like I’ve enjoyed all the Arkham series. Those games could very well be the high water mark of all superhero games. Now, Arkham developer Rocksteady is done with Batman, so they say, which means they’re free to move on to a new franchise.
And surely Rocksteady and DC aren’t about to give up on superhero games just yet!
Snippets of Warcraft
The first TV commercial for the upcoming Warcraft movie has arrived, and it’s packed full of neat new footage and all the stuff I love so far.
Still looks darn sweet! This is gonna be a hella cool movie. The CGI looks great! The Warcraft world looks great! You can see elves, Dalaran, orcs, Thrall; man, this is gonna be good! But here’s hoping I don’t reignite my World of Warcraft addiction after seeing this film.

The Warcraft Trailer With Original Game Sound Effects
The geniuses of the Internet have done it again! Here is the Warcraft movie trailer with sound effects from Warcraft II. It’s sublime.
This genius comes from Youtuber Robert Mermet. My hat is off to you, friend. This was masterful! Zug zug, indeed!
