Exciting Video Games Are Coming!
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t have a lot of good video games to play this year. I promised myself at the start of the year that I wouldn’t spend too much money on gaming…and I succeeded. I think I only bought one full-priced game this year, and maybe one or two on sale. But that means I spent most of this year not playing new and exciting video games.
That is definitely going to change in the years ahead, according to the trailers from the Video Game Awards a few nights ago, among others. Today we’re gonna check out a bunch of really cool video game trailers from the past few days/weeks!
First up is the big one: The Witcher IV! After the failure/success of Cyberpunk, CDProjektRed has decided to go back to the franchise that made them famous.
This was a super fun cinematic in the Witcher universe and I’m very much looking forward to this game. Very excited to see how they make the franchise in a post-Cyberpunk, post-Witcher 3 world. Of course, since this trailer came out, the internet commentary has been horrendous. It should hopefully go without saying that I’m not part of that nonsense. Ciri looks great and having her as the protagonist is the natural progression of this series after The Witcher III.
Anyone complaining about the looks of this CGI woman is everything I hate about society.
As for this game, we’re likely not going not going to see The Witcher IV for several years…but it’s nice to know it might exist someday.
Next up is a new Naughty Dog trailer called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This is another largely cinematic trailer, but it looks like we’re going to play an intergalactic bounty hunter with traces of 20th century technology in the future.
Looks awesome, as far as cinematic teases go. I’ve always slept on Naughty Dog games for some reason, despite all of them being popular and beloved. So unless this comes out the same weekend as Grand Theft Auto VI (for which we did not get a new trailer!), I’ll probably try this one out right away.
Though again, no release date.
Here’s another trailer I found over the weekend: Dispatch, from the former TellTale Games people. You play a dispatcher for a team of superheroes, mostly told through a point and click narrative.
I think it looks neat! I enjoyed the TellTale games I played, even if I never got around to finishing some of those franchises. I never played the second Batman game, and I never finished up saving Clementine in The Walking Dead! That’s on me. But they make good games, and Dispatch looks to have an interesting story to tell.
Dispatch will supposedly come out sometime next year, so awesome.

Toon Trailer Thursday!
Lots of trailers this week. I love a week that gives us a whole bunch of movie or TV or video game trailers, because I love watching and sharing trailers. Today we’ve got a pair of upcoming animated shows making their return!
First up is the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne, the sequel series to the truly excellent first Castlevania show on Netflix. I can safely say I don’t remember anything from the first season of Nocturne, which isn’t a good sign…
Looks like a fun, gory, action series to me! Which is exactly what the first show and the first season were all about. So yeah, I’ll definitely be tuning in to check out season 2…after finding a season 1 recap video on YouTube somewhere…
Castlevania: Nocturne returns to Netfix on Jan. 16.
Also returning next month is the fifth season of the Harley Quinn cartoon!
Count me among the fans who didn’t think season 4 was very good. This show was an insanely funny and crazy bit of television in the first two or three seasons, but then swiftly fell off…to the point that I haven’t even watched the spin-off Kite-Man series! But I’m not about to give up on Harley Quinn completely and I will be back for season 5!
Harley Quinn returns to Max…also on Jan. 16! Neat!

If You Like Indiana Jones, There’s Going to be a Video Game!
The launch trailer arrived yesterday for the upcoming video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I haven’t been following this game development at all because I’m not a big Indiana Jones guy and this game does not look like my usual style. But I’m sharing it anyway because maybe you’re both of those things!
Looks like an Uncharted or Tomb Raider game with a lot of first person elements, and a ton of story involvement. Lots of puzzles to solve. The whip is a major weapon. This could end up being just a really fun, interactive Indiana Jones adventure…which, honestly, is perfect for video games and anything else. I’m not someone who is slavishly beholden to the casting of Harrison Ford as Indy. Was he great in the role once upon a time? Obviously. But we’ve had plenty of great James Bonds.
Anyway, if this is your cup of tea, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle comes to all platforms on Dec. 9, so it’s less than a week away! Consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.

I Don’t Like Keanu Reeves as the Voice of Shadow the Hedgehog
The voice just isn’t working for me. We’ve heard only snippets in a pair of trailers so far, and I just can’t put the voice and the character together in my mind. I can’t wrap my head around it. I just hear Keanu, in a rather flat, but also kinda normal for him performance. And I don’t hear Shadow, this crazy, energy-filled new villain character.
See it for yourself in this new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The movie itself looks…like a Sonic sequel. It looks like a crazy, wild, mania-infused Sonic threequel. And that’s fine. I’ve never been the biggest fan of these films, but I’ve watched them and the Knuckles show and I’ll definitely see Sonic 3 in the theaters. And then the voice will probably work for me. I guess I just have to have faith in this crazy world we live in. Things will probably work out…with this movie.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 comes to theaters on Dec. 20, so it’s a month away.

Some Weird Movie Trailers for Wednesday
It’s Wednesday. Life is OK. Let’s start today with some pretty far out movie trailers. And by ‘far out’ I mean just plain weird. And by ‘weird’ I mean they’re pretty typical for the sort of movies we get these days.
First up is a full trailer for the Minecraft movie, in which they actually use the meme phrase ‘children yearn for the mines,’ to which I applaud them.
Man, I just don’t know. I enjoyed Minecraft when I played for that one brief period, building all sorts of neato stuff in my private little world. I still like Jack Black. And, honestly, this trailer sold me on the idea of having people from the real world go into Minecraft and use the world just like the game. They can place blocks, use the forge, chop down trees by punching them; it’s just Minecraft with real people! That’s kinda neat.
Minecraft comes to theaters on April 4 next year.
Next up is the live action trailer for How to Train Your Dragon, proving that Disney isn’t the only one who can make live action version of classic animated films.
This looks so bad. This looks so unnecessary. Toothless looks exactly the same. Did the lesson Dreamworks learn from the Disney live action movies is to not deviate at all and just make the exact same movie but in live action? I hated when Disney did that with Lion King. This one does not look appealing at all. But it’s happening, so I’m sharing the trailer.
How to Train Your Dragon comes to theaters on June 13 next year.
