A Metric Ton of New Information on the Avengers Video Game
Crystal Dynamics held a big event yesterday for their upcoming Avengers video game, and they included a metric ton of videos and new information. We’ve now got our biggest and best looks yet at gameplay and story. It all looks pretty great!
Let’s start with a story trailer.
So it looks like the villain is going to be M.O.D.O.K. and he’s going to create an army of Super Adaptoid robots who will be empowered with Inhuman powers — the better to provide a ton of powerful robots to beat up. The story seems simple enough. It’s the rest of the game that’s apparently going to be really cool.
And here’s some additional pure gameplay footage of Thor.
So let’s see. It looks like there’s going to be a lot of battling super-powered robots, with some classic comic villains thrown in. I’ve seen Abomination in at least one of these trailers. And we know Taskmaster is in the game somewhere.
It looks like base building is going to be a part of the game, as we’ll need to “rebuild the helicarrier”. And we knew outfit and gear management was going to be a thing, allowing us to customize the look and loadout of our superheroes.
Here’s a longer video even. Some stuff might be repeated.
These videos definitely make me more excited about the game than I was before. It definitely does not appear to be as ‘on rails’ as I’ve been fearing. But I’m also not entirely sure this game is going to be much more than going out to a location and beating up a seemingly endless supply of faceless, nameless robots. But hell, maybe that will be awesome. I know I’ll probably really enjoy the costume/loadout aspect of the game, and the base building. The story looks like it’ll be pretty pure Marvel superheroics, so that’s fine.
And there’s plenty of room for expansion. They’ve already said they’re going to bring in new superheroes over time, like Ant-Man. And surely if this is an ongoing game that live updates over time, there will be other stories. Maybe season 2 will be Galactus or Skrulls or something.
Suffice to say, this is our best look yet at the game, and it looks bigger and better than anything we’ve seen about it before. I’m pretty satisfied with all of this.
The game is due out on Sept. 4…just in time for my birthday!

Another Star Wars: Squadrons Trailer Because It Looks Damn Cool!
Star Wars: Squadrons was announced earlier this week as an upcoming starfighter piloting game! The announcement trailer was more of a story trailer. Thankfully, we did not have to wait long for a gameplay trailer!
Looks super fun! If I was any good at pilot games I would be really psyched! Watching this trailer, I developed the desire to finally buy a VR headset and actually put time into practicing until I’m an X-Wing ace! Wouldn’t that be fun? Wouldn’t that be a good way to spend the rest of my life?
Or maybe I’d be a TIE Fighter ace…

6 Things I Want to See in Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Last week, we got the news that Insomniac has made a new Spider-Man video game to star Miles Morales, due out at launch alongside the Playstation 5 later this year. Their Spider-Man game from 2018 was a masterpiece of web-swinging action, so anything they do with any web-slinger is good news! And, obviously, I have requests!
There has been some back-and-forth since the announcement of Spider-Man: Miles Morales as to what the game is, exactly. Some people have said it’s going to just be a remastered and enhanced version of the 2018 game with some new Miles content. Some people have said it’s a stand alone game that makes use of the previous game’s architecture, while not being a full-on sequel. And in the end, we don’t yet fully know who to believe.
But that’s not going to stop me from throwing off my list of things I’d like to see show up in Spider-Man: Miles Morales!
Read the rest of this entryThere’s Gonna Be a New Star Wars Pilot Video Game!
I have a dream of ultimate Star Wars dogfight video gaming. Imagine a system where you suit up in a VR headset that places you in the cockpit of an X-Wing or a TIE fighter. Imagine you’ve got a microphone that connects you with your whole squad, each of them plugged into similar VR. Now imagine you’re all racing towards the Death Star, a squadron of X-Wings ready to begin your trench run.
I’m pretty confident this technology exists. And here’s hoping the new video game Star Wars: Squadrons makes it happen!
The trailer is pretty light on actual gameplay, but it should still be good. Video games did a hell of a job with Star Wars dogfighting years ago with the Rogue Squadron and TIE Fighter games. Surely they’ve only improved since then. And hopefully we’ll make my dream a reality. Maybe we don’t all need VR, but it would still be super cool to plug in alongside your squadron and fly joint missions together.
I think this is something they could put at Disney World. Create whole banks of video game cabinet cockpits. Like those gold people from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but for Star Wars fighters. They’ve already got that big Millenium Falcon simulator. Let’s get some bigger, better, team simulators!
Anyway, Squadrons comes out in October.

Holy Cow, It’s Our First Look at the New Horizon Game!
Yesterday was the Playstation 5’s big debut, showing off the console itself and multiple games. I was super-excited at the reveal of the next Spider-Man game starring Miles Morales…but developers have since explained that it won’t be a full sequel. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is instead an enhanced edition of the regular Spider-Man game with some added Miles Morales content. Darn.
So while that is a bit of a let down, our first look at Horizon Forbidden West looks legit!
Horizon Zero Dawn was an amazing game and one of the first I played when I splurged on a PS4 a couple years ago. It’s a massive sandbox game, which I will, with excellent gameplay and cool characters. We all knew a sequel was coming, and it looks great! Forbidden West looks to expand upon the world in an obvious way, with a new story about some sort of plague.
Looks damn good! Until tomorrow, when we’ll probably find out it’s just a remastered and enhanced edition of the first game…
