Metalocalypse is Coming Back!

Much like The Venture Bros., the great animated show Metalocalypse is finally coming back with a straight-to-DVD movie to tie everything off. This was a great show on Adult Swim, about a death metal band that actually caused deaths and was building to some type of apocalypse. But then the series was cancelled without ever reaching that apocalypse or any actual ending. And the last episodes aired in…holy crap! 2013?! Are you kidding me?! It’s been an entire decade?!

Anyway, wow, uh, so someone was willing to give Metalocalypse the ending it deserved and we’ll be getting it straight-to-DVD with Army of the Doomstar.

Looks good to me. Looks like classic Metalocalypse of old, and it will hopefully be a fitting finale to all the greatness that came before. Jeez louise. Time passes at lightning speed, people.

This new movie will be available digitally and on Blu-ray on Aug. 22.

Tuesday Trailerpalooza

Last week, a metric ton of new trailers come out for everything from indie movies to big action movies to TV shows to video games. How am I supposed to keep up with them all? By dumping them on all in a single post on a Tuesday. Go me!

First up is the new movie Bottoms, which looks pretty fun as a silly, potentially raunchy high school teen comedy.

I might for sure give this one a watch if it comes to a theater near me. Could be funny. Could be really bad. There’s only one way to find out. Bottoms comes to theaters on Aug. 25.

Next up, let’s check out the trailer for the second season of Good Omens!

I really enjoyed the book, I really enjoyed the first season, and I’ll be happy to watch a second season. I’m sure they’ll have a ton of fun with this one! I think it’s an entirely new story, since the book didn’t have a sequel. As long as it’s got Neil Gaiman’s seal of approval, I’ll be content.

Good Omens season two comes to Amazon Prime on July 28.

Thirdly, it’s the full trailer for the long-awaited Venture Bros. wrap-up movie, which has the silly title of Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart.

I love the Venture Bros. as much as the next person. I even cosplayed as Henchman 21 at a couple of comic cons. Those pictures exist on the internet. Anyway, as much as I loved the show, I was somebody who got annoyed at how rarely new seasons came out. They were good seasons when they did…but they also rarely accomplished anything, paid off anything or were very memorable for the next five years of new content.

It was a shame when the show got cancelled, but…eh. I’ll gladly watch this movie. Hopefully they do pay off everything they put into this series. Or maybe there will just be more movies.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart will come to digital and DVD at the end of July.

Lastly, for now, we got a full game trailer for Moral Kombat 1.

I’ve played pretty much every Mortal Kombat game of the modern era. I’ll probably play this one at some point. Looks fine. No sign of Smoke, though, so perhaps I’ll have to wait for Mortal Kombat 2. I’m sure this one will be as fun as all the others.

Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on Sept. 19.

This Witcher Season 3 Trailer Tells Me Nothing

A lot of fuss is being made about the Witcher TV show on Netflix, mostly that the lead actor, Henry Cavill, is stepping away from the role. The dude is allowed to make whatever choices he wants. I enjoyed the first season, I think I liked the second season, and I liked the various spin-off cartoons and seasons we’ve had. It’s all good. But this full trailer for season 3 doesn’t tell me a whole lot.

Honestly, I can’t even remember the plot of season 2. I don’t remember what happened and I don’t remember how it ended. Did it end with a cliffhanger? I have no idea, and this trailer gives me nothing to go on.

Maybe Cavill was right to leave…

The Witcher season 3 is coming to Netflix on June 29, which is surprisingly soon.

New Superman Cartoon Incoming

We’ve known about My Adventures With Superman for a while, but now we’ve finally got a really good trailer for the upcoming animated show. It features Superman and the gang from the Daily Planet in an almost anime-style of animation. Looks pretty good.

I’ll probably watch. I don’t remember my track record on watching new DC superhero cartoons off the top of my head. I’m not religious about it, not like I am with Marvel shows. But this one looks neat and I’ll probably give it a watch. Though I might be reaching peak Jack Quaid tolerance…

My Adventures With Superman will debut on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network on July 6, then also post episodes to the Max streaming service.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is Free to Watch on YouTube

Just passing this along as a quality, nerdy PSA: the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is free to watch on YouTube for a limited time. I was never a Trekkie back in the day, but I’ve watched my fair share in the modern day, and I absolutely love Star Trek: Lower Decks. I’ve been meaning to give Strange New Worlds a try, but never found the time…until now! Because it’s free!

Here’s the first episode. And you can find the other nine on the Paramount+ YouTube page.

So yeah, the whole season is available to watch for free, as a promotion for the upcoming season 2. That’s a fun marketing strategy as far as I’m concerned! As of this posting, I’m six episodes in and it’s pretty good stuff. Quality, I’d say. This is a classic episode-of-the-week format, where the familiar crew of characters tackles some strange new sci-fi mystery each episode, while some longer character arcs simmer in the background. Nothing mind-blowing or anything similarly blowing me away, but I’m enjoying the show well enough, so I wanted to recommend this free watch to everybody.

And I am very much looking forward to a season two crossover between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks, in which the animated Lower Decks characters will appear in live action.

Oh, uh, also, don’t watch this season 2 trailer unless you don’t care about spoilers and just wanna see the live action trailer cameos.

Heck yeah! How neat is that?!
