Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/8/15

For some odd reason, this was another light week for comics for me. But this time, rather than focusing on DC Comics, it’s Marvel with the two books out that I actually read. Weird. But hey, less work for me to do to review! That’s got to count for something.

Along with the latest issue of Bloodshot Reborn from Valiant Comics, Marvel drops the fun-two punch of Darth Vader and Ms. Marvel, the latter of which easily snags Comic Book of the Week. The fun, touching story of Kamala Khan teaming up with her namesake easily defeats the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Teamwork!

Over at Word of the Nerd, I read and reviewed the third issue of Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX, and it was a blast! Skottie Young is just having a lot of fun with his tie-in, which is probably the most appropriate way to reference Avengers vs. X-Men from now on.

Comic Reviews: Bloodshot Reborn #5, Darth Vader #8 and Ms. Marvel #17.

The 6 Times Jar Jar Binks Was Totally Awesome

I don’t hate the Star Wars prequels. There, I said it. I’m not ashamed of it. I saw all three of them in the theaters and enjoyed the experience each time. Those movies have awesome lightsaber battles, cool spaceships, and they really flesh out the whole Jedi/Sith mythology.

I also don’t have any problem with Jar Jar Binks.

This guy, right here!

Everybody hates Jar Jar Binks. It’s fashionable to hate Jar Jar Binks. But you know what, I never have. I didn’t mind him in The Phantom Menace, and I don’t mind him now. Granted, I totally understand what people don’t like about him and the prequels. I get it, I really do. But me, personally? I don’t mind Jar Jar at all.

In fact, there are at least six occasions in the official Star Wars cannon where Jar Jar Binks is totally awesome! Don’t believe me? Join me after the jump!

Furiosa with a Lightsaber Just Makes Sense

An enterprising Youtubist named Krishna Shenoi had the rather brilliant idea to edit Star Wars into Mad Max: Fury Road, giving the summer’s greatest new action hero, Furiosa, her own lightsaber!

The Internet exists for neat stuff like this, and my blog exists to help spread its glory. Granted, it ain’t like my blog is the bee’s knees of the Internet or anything, but I do alright. And I love me some Mad Max: Fury Road!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/4/15

Happy Fourth of July, my American readers! I hope you’re all out blowing up a small part of your country today! I’m picnicking with the family and hopefully having a blast. My brother is in town, so he and I can finally have a face-to-face conversation instead of staying in touch via the comments section on my blog.

We’ve got some quality comics this week, especially out of DC. I’m finally buying a regular Superman comic after years ignoring Big Blue. I only wish I could say the same about Bizarro. I had such high hopes for that book. Marvel delivered a cosmic one-two punch with both Darth Vader and Princess Leia, and my humor quota is filled by another great issue of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

Which easily wins Comic Book of the Week when Squirrel Girl takes on the Avengers!

Always own up to your puns

Though it has some stiff competition from Secret Wars #4, which I reviewed over at Word of the Nerd. Secret Wars might be the best crossover in a while. I’m really enjoying the power and energy of Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic on that series.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #42, Bizarro #2, Darth Vader #7, Princess Leia #5 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7.

Mintberry Crunch! And Other Cool Video Game Announcements!

E3 was held this weekend, the big video game foofarah where everything is announced and all our dreams come true. I heard there’s going to be a new Gears of War, a remake of Final Fantasy VII and a bunch of other cool stuff. Since I still haven’t upgraded my graphics card on my computer, I’m likely going to be very behind on all of these new games. But I decided to collect some of the trailers, because they look neat, and because it’s a Tuesday.

First up, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, a sequel to The Stick of Truth.

Then we’ve got a new trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight, which comes out next week…and which…and which I won’t be able to play yet. Oh…oh god…

Then we’ve got two trailers for the new Star Wars Battlefront.

There were tons of other video games announced this weekend, but I think these three were the tops for me! Now I just need to sell a kidney…
