Jedi Power Battles is Coming Back

Holy guacamole, people! This news arrived yesterday and I’m quite giddy. They’re going to remaster Jedi Power Battles, arguably the greatest Star Wars video game of all time. At least that was the case when my brother and I couch co-oped the heck out of this game on our original Playstation back in the day. This game was a hoot, and the remaster should be a blast!

Not only is the game getting a remaster, but it’s correctly some ancient wrongs. Way back in the day, you could unlock Darth Maul as a playable character…but in the original Playstation version, he only had a single-bladed lightsaber. A travesty, I tell you. That will be fixed in this new version.

And for me, personally, I’m excited about playing as Ki-Adi-Mundi. For some random reason, I really glommed onto that big-headed Jedi Master in Phantom Menace, and was hugely disappointed that they didn’t pick him as a playable character in the Playstation version.

I have since learned — yesterday, in fact — that Ki-Adi-Mundi was playable in the Dreamcast version of the game. Man, young me really missed out. But he’ll be back in the remaster version!

They’re also adding a bunch of other unlockable characters, but the only ones they show in the trailer are existing game enemies turned playable. And that’s a shame. They can’t create some new sprites to give us a whole bunch of new Jedi to play as? No Yoda? No Saesee Tiin? No Oppo Rancisis?

I suppose we’ll find out everything when Jedi Power Battles comes back into our lives in January!

Some Video Games I’m Interested In

This hasn’t been a very good year for video games for me. Not a lot has come out. And I also made a promise to myself that I wasn’t going to spend a lot of money on games this year. A lot is coming out next year and I can’t wait! Until then, I wanted to share some videos that came out recently showing off the games I am interested in this year.

First up is a quaint little launch trailer for Star Wars: Outlaws. I bought the game on Friday and have been enjoying it so far. It’s not as smooth or as polished as I would have liked, but I was looking for a new open world RPG to play and Outlaws is working for me.

Anyone who wants to play this game but hasn’t bought it yet, I’d definitely recommending waiting a month or two until it goes on steep sale, like most Ubisoft games. I’m enjoying it, but there’s no need to rush into this one.

The next video is for the triumphant return of the Commandos game series! Did anyone else play these games when they were younger? I loved Commandos, and sometime this year we’re getting Commandos: Origins!

At least I hope it comes out this year. I don’t see a release date anywhere. And I hope my aging PC can handle it. Would feel weird to play on console. But I loved these games, and this gameplay trailer looks exactly like those old classics! I don’t need a new update or anything flashy, just gimme more maps and more Nazi punching!

Lastly is the one other game I’m super looking forward to: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2! And this is a full-on 25-minute-long gameplay video.

The first Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a doozy of a game that I never actually finished! So I’m very much looking forward to playing this one completely and for real, to dive into all the medieval combat and storytelling and fun stuff! And it comes out…oh wait, in February! I think they moved the release date back. Oh well. Still a good game to start building hype for.

And those are the three video games that are currently on my radar. All to help me kill time until Grand Theft Auto VI.

Let’s Enjoy Some D23 Trailers!

D23 was this past weekend, which is a big Disney convention where they show off all sorts of stuff they’re working on. The news sounds pretty good! And we got a ton of trailers officially released, along with a ton of trailers I had to watch bootleg copies of online. That still works, to a degree, but hopefully we get the full trailers soon.

So let’s just run down what we’ve got

First up is Moana 2. I read online that this started as a TV show and then transitioned into a movie. Could be. It won’t have the Lin Manuel Miranda music, which is a shame. But the animation looks sharp, and the cast is back. Here’s hoping it’s a fun adventure.

Moana 2 comes to theaters on Nov. 27.

Second up is the first trailer for the live action Snow White.

I will say two things: this looks good, but these live action movies tend to stink. So I’m honestly fairly convinced it’s going to be bad. But it’s still a big release, and I’m sure Disney is hoping for the best, so I wanted to share.

Snow White will come to theaters next year, on March 21.

Third up is a new trailer for the live action Mufasa movie, the Lion King prequel.

I think this is a dumb idea and the trailer looks dumb. I did not enjoy the live action Lion King movie, and I definitely don’t need a prequel. I especially don’t need a prequel with some weird lore. So Mufasa wasn’t actually in the royal lineage? He was an orphan adopted by Scar’s family? I’m not a fan of it.

I’m also not a fan of the tropey story where two future enemies start out as best friends. We’re going to see the exact same story in Transformers One. So…weird.

Mufasa comes to theaters on Dec. 20.

Now we turn to Marvel, with a new trailer for Agatha All Along!

Look, I’m an unapologetic MCU apologist. I’ve enjoyed all of their TV shows, with the sole exception of Secret Invasion. I even enjoyed Echo. So it’s entirely likely that I’ll enjoy Agatha All Along. I’m definitely going to watch and hope for the best!

Agatha All Along comes to Disney+ on Sept. 18 and will mostly release weekly, right into Halloween season.

Speaking of Marvel, I saw bootleg trailers for Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart and a new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. They all looked great! I can’t wait to watch the trailers for real. I’m looking forward to all three projects.

Lastly we have the trailer for the next Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew.

This one is really interesting. A bunch of kids on an adventure, set in Star Wars. It’s the Goonies, it’s Stand By Me; a fascinating idea. It looks great, full of Star Wars stuff, so I’ll definitely watch — though I haven’t been particularly thrilled with most of the Star Wars shows. So we’ll see.

Skeleton Crew comes to Disney+ on Dec. 3.

Meanwhile, I saw bootleg trailers for the Mandalorian and Grogu movie, which didn’t show too much. And the second season of Andor, which looked great. So I’m definitely excited for those. Lots of good things coming out in the year ahead. Can’t wait!

And I can’t wait to share those other trailers when they’re released for real.

Who Knows if Star Wars Outlaws is Going to Be Any Good Or Not?

Star Wars Outlaws is probably the biggest game I’m looking forward to this year. It’s just not a big year for my gaming interests. But who knows if Star Wars Outlaws is going to be any good or not. It’s a new type of game for Star Wars, but it’s made by Ubisoft, who know how to make this kind of game. I don’t hate Ubisoft the way some people online do, so I have high hopes.

Anyway, Ubisoft held a game reveal day yesterday and here are some videos with Outlaws gameplay and details.

I watch those trailers and I still don’t know what to expect from this game. It doesn’t seem to have the freedom of movement of an Assassin’s Creed game. But we’ve got some reputation building aspects. There are spaceships and a speeder. Hopefully a good story. I like the main character.

I guess I just don’t know. As interested as I am in playing this game, I will likely still wait for reviews to see what other people think before I dive in. I’m trying to spend as little money as possible on video games this year. Plus, it’s a Ubisoft game that comes out on Aug. 30. By Thanksgiving it will be 50% off.

What does everybody else think of this game?

6 Empire That Could Use Some Tales

Tales of the Empire came out on May the Fourth this past weekend and it really stunk up the place. Maybe one out of the six episodes — each about 15 minutes long — was any good. I’m really disappointed in this show. I enjoyed Tales of the Jedi last year, but man, Tales of the Empire was a real stinker.

Tales of Empire-Adjacent Characters

Still, I don’t think the format is a bad thing. Not every single character in Star Wars can get their own full length movie or TV show, so why not throw them some mini-sodes in this little show? There are plenty of characters who could use some fleshing out, who could use a bit more backstory. It’s a shame they went with Morgan Elsbeth this time around, because her backstory is not interesting. Barriss Offee had more potential, but then they wouldn’t commit. Tales of the Empire indeed.

Anyway, in case Star Wars ever does this again, I’ve got some suggestions for better characters to tell stories about.
