Two Great Bug-Themed Superhero Movie Trailers!
There have been a whole bunch of new trailers released over the past few days, possibly to get out in front of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. That’s great news for me, because I love trailers! And here come two great ones!
First up is the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We get a bigger look at the worlds, we get our first look at the Spot, and we get some good looking conflict.
Looks great to me! There seems to be a lot going on, perhaps too much, based on this trailer. But I’m confident they’ll put it all together. Looks like Miles wants to save his father at the cost of saving the multiverse, and Miguel doesn’t want that to happen. Makes sense. But the animation looks beautiful. The Spot looks fun. The kajillion Spider characters are a hoot. We get our first look at Scarlet Spider!
This movie doesn’t need trailers. It’s going to be fire no matter what. Can’t wait! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on June 2.
Next up is the first trailer for Blue Beetle, our first look at this movie, and I think it looks good. We get a lot of flavor and character in this Blue Beetle trailer, and I like what I see.
I’ll admit, this trailer does seem to hit all the familiar beats of a superhero origin story. But the charm outweighs the tropes for me. Xolo Maridueña looks like he’s having fun as Jaime Reyes, and I love the family feel. George Lopez looks especially fun. And I think the Blue Beetle effects look really good. Blue Beetle looks like a fun movie. Can it overcome the DC curse that killed Black Adam and Shazam 2? We’ll find out. I think it looks good.
Blue Beetle comes to theaters on Aug. 18.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/25/23
It’s another week of jam-packed comic books! A lot of good ones! A lot of new announcements! It’s always fun having something to read. I need to get back into reading my big stack of tpbs. Sometimes I think I just like buying shiny things on Amazon. Anyway, this week features such fun comics as Amazing Spider-Man, Nightwing and Saga!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Superman #1 for a perfect relaunch first issue. This is one god damned gorgeous comic book, people.
Meanwhile, I enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, though I can see why critics didn’t enjoy it. Hopefully it doesn’t go down as Marvel’s first flop. All that really matters is that I had fun. And I hope to have fun at Cocaine Bear this weekend. Should be a blast!
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #20, Nightwing #101, Saga #62, Strange Academy: Finals #4, and Superman #1.

The time has come for more comic book reviews. Do you look forward to these reviews every week? I know you do! Should I have them up on Thursdays instead? Get off my back! We’ve got new Batman and the return of Static!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Amazing Spider-Man #19 for a fun tale about Spidey and the Black Cat. I’ve always liked them as a couple.
Meanwhile, I am having a ton of fun with Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Once I got into the groove of the game, it’s become a real blast! I fully expect to max out all the characters just because I can and the end will be more fun that way. I’m also super eager to see Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania next week!
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #19, Batman #132 and Static: Shadows of Dakota #1.

This trailer came out a couple of days ago, but I’ve been having an off week. Just not feeling it. But hey, at least this trailer is pretty cool. We get a big, fun look at a Spider-Verse full of Spider-People! That counts for a lot.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a hugely anticipated movie, by me and pretty much everybody else. Can it live up to the excitement of the first film? You’re damn right it can, and I really hope it does! I want a sequel that’s bigger and better! I know it can be done! We don’t have much on the story yet, or any really stand out new characters — and no sign of the Spot. But i know this one is gonna be a banger!
Across the Spider-Verse comes out in June.

Spider-Boy is Dead, and Everything is Worse Now
Sometimes something happens in a comic book that chills me to the bone. That really stabs the dagger and twists it. Something happens that is so outside the pale that I take a break from posting movie trailers to share it with all of you. Apologies if this is a spoiler, but I don’t care. The truth must be heard. You must be made aware.
Spider-Boy, the Amalgam Comics combination of Spider-Man and Superboy, has been killed in the Spider-Verse.
This was a blow, let me tell you. Spider-Boy is awesome. All of Amalgam Comics is awesome. And to lose him like this…
It’s definitely him. Just take a look. That’s definitely his arm.
So let me set the scene as best I can. This is a couple of panels from Spider-Man #2, a current comic book telling the End of the Spider-Verse story. I’m not reading and I don’t know what it’s about. But that is Morlun, and he seems to have killed Spider-Boy off-screen.
I understand. Marvel can’t exactly use Spider-Boy freely. So the fact that they’ve used this Easter Egg is actually really awesome! An Amalgam Comics Easter Egg in 2022? My wildest dreams are coming true! But man…why’s he gotta be dead? Couldn’t someone have made a handshake agreement and let him be a full-on character? Can’t we have nice things?!
Either way, the moment needed to be noted. Let’s get some more Amalgam Easter Eggs into our comics.
