Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/5/18
A new age of comics is upon us! The Avengers is getting a more back-to-basics relaunch this week, and it ain’t half bad. And Justice League is do for a crazy wild relaunch in a couple weeks. That should also be fun.
Honestly, I think The Avengers #1 is Comic Book of the Week. It’s a pretty momentous issue, finally re-uniting Captain America, Iron Man and Thor at the core of the team. That’s pretty neat. And, like I said, Jason Aaron does a solid, exciting job.
Meanwhile, the Rogue & Gambit mini-series came to an end and it was delightful! I want Kelly Thompson on more X-Men stuff! Any fan of the two characters, especially as a couple, need to read that comic!
Comic Reviews: The Avengers #1, Batman #46 and Go Go Power Rangers #9.
6 Thoughts on Avengers: Infinity War
My advice for seeing Avengers: Infinity War: See it twice, and make sure you have a good seat. The first time I saw the film, on opening night, I was low and slightly to the left. And I really do think my askew view of the big screen kept me from fully meshing with the large-scale, bombastic superhero action. I came away from Avengers: Infinity War with slight hesitation.
Then I saw it a second time two days later, with a perfect seat, and the movie was even better!

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
I think I’m allowing myself to get too hyped up for these new Marvel movies. I was giddy all day on Thursday, just counting down the hours until I got to take my place in the theater and watch Avengers 3. I wasn’t blown away by the film that first time…nor the second time, I’ll admit. Avengers: Infinity War is not a perfect movie. But it’s a damn good one, and hugely entertaining.

How about that Avengers: Infinity War, huh? That sure was something! I enjoyed the movie, but I wasn’t blown away. I’m starting to think I let myself get too hyped up for these Marvel movies. But then I remember that Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok were amazing. So mileage may vary. Expect a fuller review on Wednesday.
As for comics this week, we’ve got a whole pile! No Avengers, I’m afraid, because I don’t read any current Avengers comics. Though the latest issue of Mighty Thor, which caps off the saga of Jane Foster: Goddess of Thunder, wins Comic Book of the Week.
Though I wasn’t particularly happy with how Mighty Thor ended. It’s a gorgeous comic, at least. Wherever Russell Dauterman goes next, I’m sure to follow.
Also, The Hunt for Wolverine kicked off this week and I will not be reading or reviewing. I think Marvel really, really dropped the ball after killing Wolverine, and I have zero interest in his return. He should have stayed dead.
Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #34, Batgirl #22, Detective Comics #979, Exiles #2, Mighty Thor #706, The Silencer #4 and The Terrifics #3.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/14/18
This is a very interesting week for comics! Marvel kicks off two new titles — Exiles and Domino — and follows those up with possibly the best issue of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl to date. At least one of those new comics might become a regular purchase for me, and Squirrel Girl will hopefully be around until the end of time.
Comic Book of the Week easily goes to Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for a single issue story of friendship, heroics, weird time malfunctions and more heart than ten comics!
In other news, I’m really enjoyable Gwenpool so far. I’ve got to order the last couple of trade paperbacks to finish it off. Gwenpool, the comic, is definitely far more than it would seem on the surface.
Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #978, Domino #1, Exiles #1, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #31 and X-Men Red #3
