Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/29/22

Welcome, everyone, to this random blog’s comic book reviews! As always, I’m just a regular dude who likes to read a random assortment of comics that I pretty much am already predisposed to like. Why would I read comics I don’t like? We’ve got some quality Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, Static and more!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Saga #55 for a glorious return of this wonderful comic. I want to say it feels like they never left, but it totally still feels that way. This issue definitely feels like the return of an old friend, at least.

Tubthumping

Meanwhile, I have probably decided to give Pokemon Legends: Arceus a try. Depending on when you read this pile of comic book reviews, I might also still be waffling on the purchase. I’m really torn about this one, but I will likely relent and give it a good. But then I’m stuck picking from three really crummy starter Pokemon. That’s right, I said it. They all stink!

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #87, Saga #55, Static: Season One #5, Thor #21, and X-Men #7.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/22/22

Greetings good readers and welcome to another batch of random comic book reviews from this random guy on the internet. Maybe you’ll agree with me, maybe you won’t, I guess we’re about to find out. I’ve got oodles of comics this week, everything from Power Rangers to Nightwing to We Have Demons!

Comic Book of the Week goes to She-Hulk #1 because I want more people to know about and read this comic. Rainbow Rowell returns to Marvel Comics after Runaways came to an end, and I can’t wait to see what she does with the Shulkster! This first issue is off to a good start.

A house would be nice

Meanwhile, I finished The Expanse at long last and loved the ending. Obviously I wish this show could continue indefinitely, but it came to a satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend watching The Expanse. Elsewhere in pop culture, I’m currently rereading X-Statix after the second omnibus volume came out. It’s fun, and still holds up. And I’m playing Gears of War: Tactics, which is Gears of War meets XCOM. Also fun. I’m enjoying my various medias these days.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #86, Nightwing #88, Power Rangers #15, She-Hulk #1, Strange Academy #15, Superman: Son of Kal-El #7 and We Have Demons #3.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/15/22

So many comics are coming out these days! As you all know, I only review the comics I’m actually reading and usually enjoying. And for some reason, that’s led to two weeks in a row with so many comics! It’s neat! We’re talking Batgirls, Robins, Mighty Morphin, Spider-Man; so many comics!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Robin & Batman #3 for a wonderful wrap-up to this delightful little series. I don’t think it’s anything too groundbreaking, but as a big Robin fan, I love some good, solid, entertaining Robin storytelling. I’m a sucker for classic Dynamic Duo action.

Watch out for rocks!

Meanwhile, I finished the first season of Wheel of Time and I enjoyed it. I’ve never read the books or had any clue what this story was about, but the show really grew on me across the season. I’ve also started the first season of Y: The Last Man and I’m loving this show. It’s going to be so painful when the season ends and there’s no hope for a continuation. But perhaps it will convince me to reread the graphic novels.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #85, Batgirls #2, Darkhawk #5, Mighty Morphin #15, Robin & Batman #3 and Robins #4.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/8/22

I’d like to start this comic review article by saying that any criticism or nitpicking I may engage in is not directed at the creators personally. Attacking creators is an abhorrent thing, and unbecoming a reasonable human being. It’s dumb as hell, and I do hope nobody reading these reviews thinks my criticisms are directed at creators. I won’t stand for it on my dumb blog. So as I nitpick the likes of Amazing Spider-Man, Superman and even Thor, none of that is a personal attack on the writers, artists, letterers or any other people involved in making the comic.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #119, but mostly for the really fun Maps Mizoguchi back-up feature. The main Batman story is good too, but this might be the official start of my “Maps as the new Robin” campaign.

The future is soon

Meanwhile, Book of Boba Fett remains fun, though I’m a little disappointed that it’s been mostly flashback so far. I watched Only Murders in the Building on Hulu and enjoyed it a lot. I even managed to guess the killer right early on! That never happens! I watched new Aggrestsuko, Letterkenny and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I’m burning through TV show catch-ups at the moment and having a nice time with it.

Comic Reviews: The Amazing Spider-Man #84, Batman #119, Dark Knights of Steel #3, Inferno #4, One-Star Squadron #2, Superman: Son of Kal-El #6, Thor #20 and X-Men #6.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/1/22

Happy New Year, everybody! What a week, what a week…not much was happening and I kinda lazied my way into today. My comic book pile was very, very light this week. I considered picking up a couple extra comics just to beef up this pile of comic reviews, but maybe I just like being lazy. I did read a new issue of Amazing Spider-Man, at least.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Rangers #14 for a rip-roaringly cool chapter in the Eltarian War!

Oh yes, this is happening

Meanwhile, I beat the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and it was a hoot. Pretty fun game. It was mostly a big, enjoyable story with some interactive and shooting elements here and there. I think they did a great job with the characters, and there were a ton of really fun Marvel cameos and Easter Eggs. So enjoyable game overall. And I also enjoyed the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. I’d say it’s off to a great start.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #83 and Power Rangers #14.
