Movie Trailer Friday
A couple movie trailers rolled out this week and I’m finally getting around to rounding them up and sharing them with you all. Are they interesting movies? Probably not. Will I watch any of them? Maybe at some point!
First up is the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4! Who knew that was happening?
I’m not impressed, but at the same time, I know that the Kung Fu Panda movies deliver. They are great movies that still hold up. So will they keep that greatness going for a fourth? Or is this just a desperate attempt to cash in on the franchise name? I’m a big Awkwafina fan, so it’s fun to see her show up. But where are the Furious Five?! I guess we’ll see.
Kung Fu Panda 4 comes to theaters on March 8.
Next up is Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the legacy sequel to those original Beverly Hills Cop movies.
I didn’t see the original Beverly Hills Cop movies until well into adulthood, so I have no nostalgic connection to this series. I have no memory of those movies either. The only things I remember about Beverly Hills Cop are the bits from The Clerks cartoon show, so yeah. But hey, I like modern day Eddie Murphy, and he’s had good luck teaming up with Netflix. So maybe it’ll be fun.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F comes to Netflix next summer.
Lastly, the new John Krasinski joint, If, about imaginary friends.
I didn’t like the look of this trailer, and not just because it’s a Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends rip-off. It’s that moment when the little girl tells the big, purple If not to say the word ‘ifs’ when he’s answering her question, leading to that really weird, strained moment. But ‘ifs’ is the answer to her direct question, and clearly the word he was going to say. So why would she tell him not to say the obvious answer?! Just for that unfunny strained moment?! What’s going on?
Anyway, If comes to…I think theaters…on May 17.

Pink Godzilla is Coming
It’s a good time to be a Godzilla fan. I just saw Godzilla Minus One this weekend, and it was great! Awesome monster stuff, and a very touching human story. I teared up in the end! And then we’ve got Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is a really fun show about the Monsterverse. They managed to pull that off!
And now we’ve got the first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
It looks pretty crazy. These new Godzilla and Kong films have really gone off the rails since the more grounded first film in 2014. And we used up the likes of Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah ages ago (still waiting on my fave, Anguirus!). So I guess they’re going to team up and take on a balding orangutan villain in Middle Earth? I suppose we’ll see!
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire comes to theaters on April 12!

Our First Look At Furiosa, the Prequel We Don’t Need
Mad Max: Fury Road is a masterpiece of filmmaking. It’s so damn cool, so damn fun. And rather than make a sequel, we’ve got a prequel about the Furiosa character. Make no mistake, the character is great, but does she need a prequel? Do we really need to see her story when we already know the coolest part?
I think the trailer looks pretty good. But the CGI is very noticeable, especially considering that Fury Road was hyped because of the practical effects. And is Anya Taylor-Joy a good replacement for Charlize Theron? I guess we’ll find out. I’m definitely going to see this movie in the theaters, but this first look is a mixed bag of awesome and hesitant.
Furiosa comes to theaters on May 24.

I Never Played Five Nights at Freddy’s
I’m just not interested in horror games or horror movies. So I never bothered with Five Nights at Freddy’s, and I definitely never bothered getting into the deep lore videos on YouTube, because apparently that’s a thing. I did watch the recent movie, though, and as a non-fan, it was not that great. But hey, why not enjoy Tell It Animated‘s take on the whole thing?
I love Tell It Animated! He makes everything better! And it’s also a great way to kick off a Monday, so bully on that.
