Speaking of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Check out this new, three-minute long preview for Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.
That just looks fantastic. It’s witty, Agent Coulson is awesome, and it sounds a lot like what my List of Six was about earlier today. It seems these agents are going to investigate superheroes, and my boy J. August Richards is playing one of them. Internet speculation puts Richards as playing Rage, from the New Warriors. If you look at the Marvel logo at the start of the clip, with all the comic book panels flashing by in the background, you can see Rage in the panels. Why would they put someone like Rage in that logo buzzer if he didn’t matter?
And having Rage show up in the show is exactly like what I based my list on: random Marvel characters getting a cameo or guest spot on the show! Perfect! It’s like I can see the future, or something.
So attention, Joss Whedon, if you read today’s List of Six, feel free to use any of my ideas free of charge (and then hire me to write for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

6 Characters Who Would Make Great Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
What do you do when your little superhero movie goes on to gross more than $2 billion? You create a TV spin-off, of course! Last year’s The Avengers has given way to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is going to premiere this fall on ABC. And because Marvel Studios are clearly able to recognize genius, The Avengers‘ director Joss Whedon was put in charge of developing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. For those who don’t know, Whedon is also the brains behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse and the much beloved Firefly, so the man knows a little something about producing great TV shows.
The new Scoobies
Unfortunately, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not going to feature any of the Avengers (probably) or Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll feature in cameo roles, but probably not until Sweeps Week. Instead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will star Agent Phil Coulson from the movies, as well as a handful of new, original characters to make up the main cast. Most of the bad guys they fight will probably be original characters too.
That’s all well and good, but a comic book geek like me wants to see real Marvel characters from the comics! The great thing about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is that it takes place in the Marvel Movieverse, in the same world as The Avengers and all those Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk movies. And since it’s produced by Marvel Studios, they have nearly full access to the entire library of Marvel comics for possible characters, cameos and Easter Eggs. So here are six Marvel Comics characters who I think would be perfect for uncomplicated, licensing-approved appearances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Joss Whedon is soon to be back on TV! Here’s our first look at the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I think it looks pretty neat. As we all know, Joss Whedon is a master of the TV arts, and any show he makes is bound to be amazing. The fact that it’s based in the Marvel Movieverse and stars Agent Coulson is just icing on this delicious cake! I can only hope that the show will be filled with juicy Marvel Universe Easter Eggs and cameos!
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/11/13
Another week, another good load of comics. Everything is mostly good this week, except for, well…I’m not digging Justice League of America. Maybe some of you are, maybe there are people who really enjoy that comic, but for me, it’s a total dud. And that’s just disappointing overall. I think it’s a surefire sign that, in the end, DC’s New 52 reboot is going to crash and burn. This JLA was given a big push, and it’s written by Golden Boy Geoff Johns, but I just think it sucks. I think DC is floundering these days. They come up with strange comics like The Movement or The Green Team as if they think those will actually sell. Then they cancel those titles in six issues because they couldn’t match up to the popularity of Batman.
Pretty soon, all DC Comics are just going to be extensions of the Batman, Superman and Green Lantern franchises.
Fortunately, Marvel is still kicking butt with their Marvel NOW! campaign. It’s proof that you don’t need to reboot your entire universe to make things feel fresh and exciting. In fact, much to my surprise, Comic Book of the Week is going to Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers this week! I’ve generally disliked that comic, but Hickman hits it out of the park this week – possibly because he finally focuses on a little team interaction and character development.
I’m going to say that now every time I go gambling
Plus watching Sunsport and Cannonball make pals with some disenfranchised A.I.M. henchmen is just awesome.

Phil Urich Dead!? Crossover with Kaine?! Ben Reilly Returns!?
Solicitations have come out for the Superior Spider-Man family of comics in August, and they all seem geared to characters I love. What’s up with that? But hey, I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, even if that gift horse tastes like rancid, bitter tears!
First up, in Superior Spider-Man itself, it seems that Otto is going to target the new Hobgoblin, otherwise known as Phil Urich, otherwise known as one of my all-time favorite comic book characters. I’m always pleased when Phil pops up in the pages of Spider-Man, but based on the solicitations, it looks like Phil’s days might be numbered!

That would really, really suck. But I’m not going to nerd rage about one of my favorite characters being killed. Slott has been building to a confrontation like this with Phil ever since he started writing Spider-Man. So I’m just going to look forward to an awesome Hobgoblin story. And check out Spidey’s new evil costume! Villains always go for black.

Next, it looks like we’re finally going to get the first crossover between Spider-Man and the Scarlet Spider. Chris Yost writes both Scarlet Spider and The Avengers Spider-Man (which will soon be renamed Superior Spider-Man Team-Up), so in August, he’s bringing the two comics together for a two-part story of Scarlet Spider meeting the Superior Spider-Man. Kaine and Otto have a torrid history stretching back to Kaine’s heyday in the 90s, when he killed Otto by snapping his neck with his bare hands. So one would think that Otto probably isn’t going to like running into Kaine again.
Marvel has an interview with Yost on their website. And we get a better look at the new Superior Spider-Man costume. Looks almost like an inverted version of Kaine’s costume.
But more importantly, check out the last question of that interview. The interview is about Scarlet Spider #20, but he question looks ahead to the solicitation for Scarlet Spider #21, which apparently mentions a confrontation with Ben Reilly!? And Yost says that the last page of the crossover will be a real game changer.
So, for reals, it looks like Ben Reilly might be coming back! I will tell you more when it becomes available.

That should make for an awesome team up. Though I’m a little disappointed that it’s not happening in the actual Superior Spider-Man series, as if this crossover doesn’t warrant anything more than just the secondary Spidey titles. But I can live with that.
So Phil Urich and the Scarlet Spider are a big deal in August! It’s like the 90s all over again!
