Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/8/14

What a fun comic book week this turned out to be! Four Marvel comics debuted their new #1 issues this week, keeping the All-New Marvel NOW! going strong. Will they be as good as Black Widow? Or will they tank like…some other comic that was so bad I can’t even remember what it was. You’ll have to read on to find out!

Or I could just tell you now. I think Loki: Agent of Asgard, Wolverine, Punisher and Ms. Marvel were all good comics, well made and with some direction in mind, but only Ms. Marvel stood head and shoulders above the rest as a legitimately exciting new series. Out of the four, that’s the only one I’m definitely going to be buying from here on out. Ms. Marvel lived up to all the hype and easily won Comic Book of the Week!

My fan fiction was never this good

As for the rest, it’s probably a matter of taste, and I’m sure other people will love those comics much more than I did. I’m sure people will keep buying Wolverine comics no matter what I say.

Comic Reviews: Forever Evil #5, Loki: Agent of Asgard #1, Ms. Marvel #1, Punisher #1, Wolverine #1.

Paul Bettany as the Vision? Alright, I’ll Buy It

The superhero movie rumor mill is grinding away today at full force, with news out of England that Paul Bettany will be playing the Vision in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Bettany, if you recall, has been the voice of Tony Stark’s computer/butler J.A.R.V.I.S. in all of the Iron Man movies, as well as the first Avengers. And the Vision is an android from the comics. So it would kind of make sense for the artificial intelligence to just upgrade into a robot body.

I can see the resemblance, especially in the eyes

Right now, this casting is all rumor, I think. It’s all over the Internet today, but Marvel hasn’t said anything concrete. It was reported in The Daily Mail, who said they saw Bettany undergoing some make up work on the set. Then it got confirmed by Variety. I don’t usually like to post these sorts of rumors, but it’s a slow news day, and I actually really like this idea.

Thor: The Dark World is Still Good the Second Time Around

Good times, good times; nobody does it like Honest Trailers and the Screen Junkies. I recently watched Thor 2 again the other day, and it definitely held up since November. Very entertaining film, though clearly most of the jokes and twists were better the first time around. Still, enjoy this bit of laughter, friends! And why not check out the Honest Trailer for the first Thor while you’re at it?

6 Bug-Themed Heroes You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

Did you ever wonder why the most popular superhero in the world is based on a spider? What’s up with that? You’ve got to admit, that’s one weird premise. Why not make a superhero based on happiness and good cheer? Though that probably wouldn’t sell as well as spiders, because spiders are both scary and awesome. Well good news, blog fans, I decided to take a trip through ‘awesome superheroes land’ and bring you a bunch of other insanely bug-themed superheroes! Because why should Spider-Man have all the fun?

Class

Probably because he’s the best.

But don’t discount these creepy, crawly characters I’ve dug up! You’d be surprised what some people consider suitable superhero material. Join me after the jump for the six buggiest characters in comics!

Four Minutes of Spider-Man 2 Goodness!

I watch the Super Bowl for the awesome movie trailers! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 got a nearly 4-minute-long trailer! It’s big, it’s juicy and it has me more excited for the movie than ever before! I really think this trailer was better than the Captain America one.

I loved the focus on Max Dillon and his growth into Electro. He’s a C-list super-villain at beast, but I think this movie can do a lot with him. I only wish we’d gotten to see more of Rhino.
