The Quieter Moments of Marvel
I mostly just love this video for the song – ‘Stay Alive’ by Jose Gonzalez. Someday I’ll have to share with you fine people how I mostly get my music from TV shows, movie trailers or commercials. There are so many songs on my playlist that came from the TV shows Scrubs and Chuck…At any rate, let’s give Gen Kim a hand for making this brilliant bit of fan love.
Animated Miles Morales!
The world announced today that Donald Glover, from Community, was going to voice Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon – which means that Ultimate Spider-Man finally gets to appear in Ultimate Spider-Man! That’s good news and all, but I’m even more excited for animated Miles Morales! He’ll probably never show up on the big screen, but this is cool nonetheless.
Glover is pretty awesome in the role. I kind of want to watch Ultimate Spider-Man now.
And for anybody keeping track, I totally owe you guys a review of the last issue of Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man. I’ll get to it, I’ll get to it.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/23/14
The week is finally here! Grant Morrison’s long-gestating project, Multiversity, has finally hit the stands! I think it was first announced back when I was in college. Feels like forever. It was one of those project that I never thought would see the light of day. But Grant Morrison lives to mess with our heads, and he definitely carries the slack.
And he’s not alone! This was a week of above average comics! Storm, Ms. Marvel, New Avengers; I was a glutton for good comics this week. But despite those quality issues – and Multiversity does indeed live up to expectations – I’m going to personally give Comic Book of the Week to Batman and Robin #34. It wasn’t the best comic of the week, but it spoke to me personally, and this is how I roll.
Moment of the week, though, goes to New Avengers. The world is coming to an end, and Reed Richards flies out to Latveria in the middle of the night to spend his last hour alive with his daughter, who has been staying with Doctor Doom. But only Reed knows the world is about to end. Every else is in the dark. All they know is that Reed woke everybody up in the middle of the night. It’s great.
Though now that I think about it, why didn’t Doom ever get involved in the incursion storyline in New Avengers? Remember when that was teased all the way back at the beginning? That would have been awesome.
Comic Reviews: Batman Eternal #20, Batman and Robin #34, Ms. Marvel #7, Multiversity #1, New Avengers #23 and Storm #2.
You can also check out my review of All-New Ghost Rider #6 at Word of the Nerd.
And I was going to review Batwoman #34 this week, but something happens in that comic that deserves a much closer examination. Come back on Sunday for a deeper exploration of just why DC Comics has screwed us all over again. They say revenge is a dish best served cold, after all…
The Winter Soldier Really Is a Good Movie, Honestly
Can’t fault the Screen Junkies for being totally honest. They’re the ones who made the rules.
I’ve seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier a second time now, and it still holds up as a great action film. It’s one of those movies I might even consider buying the DVD for, like some kind of archaic ritual.
Real Comic Book Supervillains Will Be in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Starting With Absorbing Man!
No sooner did Marvel announced that Mockingbird would be joining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then they’ve also revealed that Absorbing Man, a pretty major comic book bad guy, will be in the season premiere on Sept. 23. Crusher Creel will be played by actor Brian Patrick Wade, and here is a pic of him from the set.
That’s pretty awesome news! One of the things we all wanted from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was more comic book connections. They didn’t even get around to bringing Graviton back in the first season! Granted, Absorbing Man, Graviton and Blizzard aren’t exactly A-list bad guys, but they are a million times better than that random, no-named fire-guy, right?
Hecks yes.
What other comic book villains would you like to see in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
