6 Thoughts on the Avengers Academy Mobile Game

Once upon a time, superhero video games were a rare and sometime special occasion — especially if the game was any good. But now, superheroes are everywhere, and while we haven’t had that big budget, A-List Avengers console game, Marvel is going gangbusters in the mobile app market. There are fighting games, team-building games, card games and more, all advertising excellent superhero action.

I’m now a month deep into their latest offering, Avengers Academy, and I wanted to list out a little review.

Once again, Hawkeye gets shafted

Avengers Academy is a free-to-play city building game that recasts the Avengers as college or high school students. It’s a bright and colorful game that has you sending the Avengers on missions throughout the day, while buying new buildings to put on campus. At the moment, we’re right in the middle of the first big game event, featuring the Leader, A-Bomb and Red Hulk attacking the campus.

Avengers Academy is free to download from your mobile game store of choice. But join me after the jump to see whether or not you should.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/5/16

I don’t know about you, but this was a pretty busy week for me. Work work work work work work work. I tells ya! I was able to get in a full-sized review of the first issue of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, which was pretty fun. But this week’s Henchie Bits are a little on the light side What can I say, I was morphed out.

But hey, any week with new issues of Batgirl and Iron Man is a good enough week for me! We’ve also got the first issue of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s Black Widow. I hope to stick with the title this time.

Comic Book of the Week goes to the second issue of Spider-Man. I do have a soft spot for Miles Morales, and this issue surprised me in a few interesting ways.

Too soon, Bendis

If only Donald Glover was still young enough to be cast as Spider-Man.

Comic Reviews: Batgirl #49, Black Widow #1, Invincible Iron Man #7 and Spider-Man #2.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/27/16

Tough week! I don’t know if somebody dumped my Cheerios or what, but I wasn’t as thrilled about this week’s comics as I was last week. Last week was great! Last week was hilarious. This week…not so much. Why can’t you be more like last week, this week?

We’ve got a ton of comics though, from Astonishing Ant-Man to Saga to Silk to We Are Robin! This week even sees the long-awaited return of Karnak by Warren Ellis! Unfortunately, it does not live up to the excitement of the first issue.

Fortunately, the new issue of Hellcat is as great as all the rest have been!

Totally justifies the random Doctor Strange cameo. I think this makes at least three at Marvel.

Comic Reviews: Angela: Queen of Hel #5, Astonishing Ant-Man #5, Karnak #2, Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #3, Saga #34, Silk #5 and We Are Robin #9.

Finn Jones Has Become Unto a Thing of Iron!

Marvel and Netflix have finally cast their Iron Fist, and it’s Finn Jones, the guy who played Loras Tyrell in Game of Thrones. Sounds like a pretty solid choice to me.

For the love of all that is holy, Marvel, please use the modern costume

I’m pretty sure Jones was fine in Game of Thrones, I don’t really remember. Hopefully he can live up to Danny Rand’s potential. He’s got to be fun and make a good team with Michael Colter as Luke Cage. I’m more than willing to give him a chance. Marvel has not failed in the casting department yet.

Iron Fist will come out…some day. But more importantly, the new season of Daredevil arrives next month! Woot!

New Daredevil trailer features Elektra

Marvel’s Daredevil announced the Punisher’s appearance for Season 2, but Marvel and Netflix have just released a promo featuring Daredevil’s long-time love-interest, Elektra. This footage sort of snuck up on us, like some sort of ninja.
