My 6 Favorite Things of 2022
It’s that time of year again! The end of the year. And at the end of the year, pop culture sites across the internet come together and share their Best of the Year lists. I’m a pale imitation of those sites, but at least I can share my favorite media from throughout the year. My favorite games, shows, movies, comics and whatnot.
As always, I don’t listen to music and I don’t read books, so those won’t make for easy entries in this list. I’ve got to search for other random entries to get up to six. What will I come up with? Favorite movie trailers? Favorite LEGO sets? Hopefully something good. But at least I devoured a ton of TV shows, movies and comic books this year! So that should be fun.
Join me after the jump for a few of my favorite things from 2022! And feel free to share your own in the comments.

The news came out last week that Henry Cavill will not return as Superman on the big screen after all. Despite being told by the studio he would. Despite being shoehorned into the post-credits scene in Black Adam. Cavill’s time as the Man of Steel is at an end. To that I say, good. Cavill was fine as Superman, but I am 110% in favor of putting an end to the DCEU and letting James Gunn take over completely.
With the Superman gig gone, and after dropping out of The Witcher, Henry Cavill is a free agent. He’s a pretty popular actor, and I’m sure he could be put to good use within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are plenty of superheroes who have yet to make their MCU debut, and there are plenty of those that Cavill could play. I’m not talking about Hyperion or Sentry, the obvious Superman knock-offs. Why are people pigeon-holing Cavill into those roles? The Marvel Universe is vast and exciting, and Cavill could be just about anyone.
Join me after the jump for six Marvel superhero roles that Henry Cavill could play in a future MCU project. And feel free to share your own suggestions in the comments below.

Avatar: The Way of Water comes to theaters this week, and it’s projected to be one of the highest grossing movies of the year. And that will be pretty impressive, considering it’s been more than a decade since the first Avatar film hit theaters, and it’s not like the public has been begging for another one of these. It has always struck me as weird that the first Avatar, the highest grossing movie of all time, has had so little cultural impact.
Obviously, the first Avatar had a huge impact at the time. Everybody was talking about it, everybody went to see it, and it launched a decade+ of poorly adapted 3D films. But does anybody remember the characters? The story? We all remember those big, blue aliens, but is “Na’vi” a household word? Does this franchise have any cultural impact deeper than surface level? I have no idea. But I figured it would be fun to try and remember, off the top of my head, everything I could from that first film before I go see the second one.
Join me after the jump for everything I remember about the first Avatar film, which I’ve only seen the one time, in theaters, when it first came out in 2009. Feel free to use this as your only recap before you go see the sequel this weekend.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks pretty dang cool. Chris Pratt’s voice acting aside, the size, scope and attention to detail we’ve seen in the trailers so far is pretty amazing. From King Koopa invading the icy penguin kingdom to Mario Karts riding eternal on the Rainbow Road, I am loving the approach they’re taking to this movie. They’re keeping things cartoony, while taking the lore very seriously. As the pop culture geek that I am, I like that approach.
So how far are they willing to take it?
It can be assumed that the filmmakers are hoping for a while franchise. That’s how movies work these days. And there is 40-some years of Mario Bros. mythology to draw from. We saw Yoshis, fire flowers, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart in the trailers so far, imagine what else might be hiding in the movie. Or, better yet, imagine who they’re saving for a post-credits scene? Will the movie have a post-credits scene? Obviously I have no idea. But imagine the possibilities! Imagine who they could draw from to throw into the film. Post-credits scenes are still hugely popular, and the sky is the limit for The Super Mario Bros. Movie!
Join me after the jump for six suggestions for that crucial, post-credits, sequel-teasing cameo.

We are living in a weird Star Wars age. There hasn’t been a new Star Wars movie in years, with no sign of anything coming to the big screen anytime soon. But there has been an endless run of TV shows, both live action and animated, and they run the gamut of crummy to exceptional. And possibly the best of them all, Andor, came to an end just last week after a truly unexpected and emotional first season.
TV Show Rating: 10/10 – Fantastic
I loved Andor. I would be the first to tell you that Cassian Andor was a weird choice for TV show. I liked Rogue One just fine, but Andor? Now I’ll be the first to admit when I’m wrong. The geniuses behind this show, like Tony Gilroy, have delivered some of the best Star Wars content in the history of the franchise. They found their own little corner of the galaxy far, far away and delivered a powerful story about the nature of fascism and the need to fight it in all its forms.
Join me after the jump for my full thoughts and review of the first season of Andor. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the season. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.
