Top 6 Shockingest Lightning-Based Superheroes (Other than Shazam!)
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods comes out this week and I already did a list of the weirdest members of the Shazamily last time we had one of these movies. So I can’t go back to that well. How do I honor this new superhero movie? I really enjoyed the first one, and I have high hopes to enjoy this one as well. How about we do a list about lightning-based characters?
Lightning and electricity powers are a staple in comics. Just like ice, fire and other elements. It zaps, it’s easy to manage and it looks really cool sometimes. Not everybody is so unique that they use magic lightning to transform into a whole new form. Most people just have straight up lightning zap out of their fingers. And now that I think about it, I don’t think any of them got their powers from being struck by lightning. That’s pretty weird.
Anyway, let’s get on with it and then we can all go see Shazam! Fury of the Gods this weekend! Join me after the jump for the six best lightning characters in comics. And I don’t mean lightning in terms of weather control. Storm and Thor don’t count. I mean lightning specifically.

In news that I’m sure excited you as much as it did me, the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is going to lean heavily into a bunch of random mutant characters! Subtitled “Mutant Mayhem,” the new movie debuted its trailer and voice cast this week, and I’m as giddy as a school girl. Ninja Turtles were my jam as a young child in the 1980s. I watched all the cartoons, but the Ninja Turtles were my favorite. And I’m a sucker for nearly every new reboot that comes out.
Much to my surprise, Mutant Mayhem is going to feature a ton of obscure and also ran characters from Turtle lore. Mondo Gecko? Genghis Frog? Ray Fillet?! I am so on board! I was a huge collector of the Ninja Turtles action figures as a kid. I loved all the weird, random mutants they introduced in the toyline. And it was even more fun when they then showed up in the cartoon. And then it gets even more fun when they also get rebooted with every new iteration. So you best believe I’m even more excited about this new movie than I was a week ago. And what better way to celebrate than to run down some of my favorite TMNT characters? For nostalgia’s sake!
Join me after the jump for my favorite characters in TMNT lore, be it comics, movies, toys, cartoons or rock shows. And feel free to share your own favorite such characters in the comments below!

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is taking a big hit at the box office and in the fandom. Despite it being a very entertaining movie that many people enjoyed — myself included — it’s got one of the lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores of an MCU film, and it’s box office take isn’t going to reach Giant Man heights anytime soon. That’s a real shame. Does this mean we’ll never get an Ant-Man 4? Is this the end of Scott Lang’s adventures in the MCU? I sure hope not!
As great superhero movies have said, you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain. Had the MCU ended at Avengers: Endgame, it would be hailed as a masterpiece for all time. But movies are a business, and why quit when you’re ahead? I fully applaud Disney and Marvel was trying out new projects, new characters, new creators and the like. I’ve enjoyed Phase 4, including all the TV shows. Another great superhero movie also said, “They found you amusing for a while, the people of this city. But the one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail, fall, die trying.” There are plenty of people ready to celebrate a failure in the MCU, and I’m not one of them. I look forward to future Ant-Man films, as long as Marvel and the actors are game.
Join me after the jump for six things I’d like to see in a future Ant-Man sequel.

Ant-Man is my favorite Avenger. He’s probably not my favorite franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s my favorite Avengers hero, largely because Paul Rudd is simply awesome. So I’m totally on board for more Ant-Man movies. I like the first two, I like all the characters; let’s have a good time! And Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a good time. It’s not a great movie, and I can see why it’s getting middling reviews, but I had a blast at the theater. I hope this isn’t the last movie in the Ant-Man and Wasp series.
Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good
Part of the problem, I think, is that movie critics are done with the MCU. I’ve read a couple of reviews, read a lot of the online discussion, and I think people are just not as excited anymore. I get it. I understand. I’m not one of them, of course. I’ll be a Marvel fanboy for life. I’m gladly watching everything Marvel puts out. But I think the public sentiment has shifted. Marvel and Disney weren’t about to stop after Avengers: Endgame. They can’t. They’re a business. So they expanded into TV shows, expanded into new characters and new franchises. And perhaps the quality has suffered due to the quantity. I can see it. And I’m confident Kevin Feige is smart enough to learn and pivot.
I enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, some parts more than others .Join me after the jump for my thoughts/review of the film. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole movie.

What is a comic book blogger supposed to do when there have already been several Ant-Man films and I’ve already used up all the best List of Six ideas for those? I’ve done bug superheroes. I’ve done shrinking superheroes. I’ve done growing superheroes. I’ve done armored bug superheroes. I’ve got nothing left! I’m all tapped out on exploiting Ant-Man and the Wasp for list ideas!
So how about we do Kang the Conqueror?
The next big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Kang the Conqueror, and he’s making his big screen debut this week in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. I’m excited! I can’t wait to see this film and I hope it lives up to all my excitement. Ant-Man is my favorite Avenger and I’m excited to see how Kang kicks butt and makes an impact. And to celebrate his awesomeness, let’s take a look at other time traveling superheroes. Kang the Conqueror is a master of time, bending it to his will. And he’s not the only one capable of such feats in the funny pages.
I’m not talking about characters who have time traveled, like Bishop or Booster Gold. I’m talking about comic book heroes and villains who can manipulate time itself! Join me after the jump to see who I found.
