The 6 Characters on My Justice League

Welcome to Comic-Con week! I’m not in San Diego, so I don’t get to join in on all the festivities. But the great thing about the Internet is that I can talk up a comic book storm and still feel like I’m part of the fun. One of these days I’ll get to go to San Diego Comic-Con. Maybe when I’m rich.

To celebrate the craziest comic book week of the year, I’ve decided to mirror what I did last year and put together my dream team of a superhero roster. Last year it was the Avengers, this year it’s the Justice League!

United!

And I’m talking a New 52 continuity Justice League.

Personally, I like the idea that the Justice League is made up of the top superheroes at DC Comics. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest are a solid lineup that holds a lot of weight in the hearts and minds of the fans. But how boring would it be if my list was just the same old seven heroes? So I’ve decided to get a little creative.

If DC Comics hired me to write the Justice League comic, and gave me cart blanche to include whoever I wanted in the roster, these would be the 6 characters on my team. I would love to hear your own dream team lineup in the comments!

The 6 Best of Hercules in Pop Culture

Hercules! Hercules! Hercules! That’s still a reference people get, right? Good. The Rock’s big Hercules movie comes out at the end of this month, and that’s reason enough to celebrate as far as I’m concerned! He’s the Rock! Doing Hercules! It’s kind of perfect, actually.

I’m torn as to whether or not the word ‘smackdown’ should be in this movie

I am a huge fan of Greek myths. I can still remember the Big Book of Greek Myths I used to devour from my middle school library. So seeing a big budget Hercules movie (that isn’t that earlier big budget Hercules movie from January) is kind of a treat. It’s the Rock fighting all the great Greek monsters. That alone should be pretty cool. And you know what else is pretty cool: the idea that people have been playing Hercules for centuries. This is a character that has existed since before the Roman Empire. How cool is it that we, as a society, are still telling the story of Hercules?

And why can we do that? Because nobody owns the rights to Hercules! Anybody can make a Hercules movie or cartoon or video game or comic book…and they have! Join me after the jump to check out the 6 greatest pop culture appearances of the Lion of Greece!

The 6 Greatest Long Lost Toylines

Ladies, brace yourselves, because you’re reading the blog of a 30-year-old man who still collects action figures. Oh yes, oh yes. Take a few breaths if your hearts are fluttering too much. But I kid. I love toys. They’re such a wonderfully wacky and colorful part of our world.

And I only sometimes take my action figures down off the shelf to play battles with them.

No school like the old school

But not every toyline is as successful as the Transformers or LEGO. And not every toy can stay popular like the Ninja Turtles or superheroes. Sometimes, in this unfair world of ours, some truly great toys are lost to the ages. I’m as much a fan of nostalgia as the next person, so what say we spend an afternoon reminiscing about the great toys of our youth and wondering where it all went wrong! Join me after the jump for my six favorite childhood toys!

6 Things I Want to See in Doctor Who Season 8

The new season of Doctor Who is is right around the corner, and the BBC has begun to release a few snippets of teases of trailers. The build up to Peter Capaldi as the Doctor has felt epic. This really does seem like a momentous occasion, and I can’t wait. I was let down by Season 7, and I hope Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat can turn things around! Say what you will about Moffat, I love most everything he’s brought to Doctor Who. And the cumulative 10 seconds we’ve seen of Capaldi so far have been out of this world!

Photoshop is no one’s friend

So what can we expect from Capaldi’s Doctor? We’ve seen the outfit, we’ve heard the snippets, and I’m sure people smarter than me have found actual descriptions of what we’ll see. But I’m a creative sort of guy. And I have some ideas for Moffat, Capaldi and the whole crew. Join me after the jump for six things I want from the new season of Doctor Who when it returns on Aug. 23!

The 6 Most Underrated Movie Transformers

Because money makes the world go round, we have once again arrived at another Transformers movie! This one is entitled ‘Age of Extinction’, the logical follow-up to ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ and ‘Dark of the Moon’. Why the new film isn’t called ‘Age of the Extinction’, I will never know. But all these titles raise the obvious point: how are future generations supposed to figure out the viewing order? Will it even matter by that point? Who cares! Explosions!

“I forgot to mention the Dinobots is all…”

The big draw this time around will be the Dinobots, and I’m personally looking forward to some robot stegosaurus action. Major characters like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will return, but Shia LeBeouf, who played the part of the human, has been replaced by Mark Wahlberg, playing the part of the new human (the part he was born to play, baby!). So if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the course of the franchise, it’s that the characters are easily replaceable, especially the Transformers themselves. There have been countless bland and indistinguishable Transformers stuffed into each movie – but not all of them are so bad.

In fact, there are more than a few diamonds in the rough. Half a dozen, to be exact. Join me after the jump to meet the unsung heroes and villains of the Transformers movie verse!
