While the boss is away: One hench-person’s top six video game themes

Thank God.  I thought he’d never leave.
Until the boss returns, this site belongs to the henchmen.  Viva la revolution!

Now that we have some time to ourselves, I thought I’d rate for you my arbitrarily-numbered favourite themes from video games.  Just in case you’ve missed out on the past 20 years of video game development, they’re as much a musical experience as they are visual and tactile.  For many gamers, the music of video games has stayed with us long after the games themselves have found their way onto a lonely shelf.  Let’s take a look back, shall we?

6. Super Mario Brothers

It’s not always style or beauty in the music itself that captivates us.  This song, playful and upbeat, represents an entire generation of gamers from the very start of the home console.

5. Tetris

This isn’t the first time the Tetris theme has made it onto this blog, and for good reason.  This theme echos the methodical approach to Tetris’s gameplay, and at times the frantic rush that comes with the more difficult stages.

The Badass, Anime Red Riding Hood You’ve Always Wanted

The animation director behind the genius Red vs. Blue  is now turning his sights to some kind of werewolf-killing anime version of Little Red Riding Hood.

You can learn more about Rwby Red on its Facebook page. Rooster Teeth do amazing work. The last few seasons of Red vs. Blue have been action packed, with breathtaking fight scenes and insane action choreography. A lot of the early humor may be gone, but no one does an action or fight scene like Rooster Teeth. As you can plainly see in the above trailer.

Rwby Red comes out in 2013, and you better believe I’m going to be there to see it!

It appears that Red may have some friends

Disney Princess Leia

Now that Disney owns Star Wars, the other Disney Princesses have taken the opportunity to welcome Leia into their flock.

Much like when Disney bought Marvel and I wanted to see the Wasp turned into a Disney Princess, I think it would be a blast to see Leia taken in that same direction! Not for anything solid, mind you, but just for fun. Draw her like the other Princesses. Put her on merchandise. Leia is heads and tails above the rest of them in terms of badassery.

The above video was made by the guys at AVByte, who have been doing a lot of good work recently.

Halo 4 is Epic, And Now It’s Also a Rap

I’m hearing good things about Halo 4. I might get it in time, though I’ve never been a huge Halo fan. Still, one of the good things I’m hearing about it is this epic rap by Dan Bull!

It’s not as good as his amazing Skyrim raps, which you can see here and here. But it’s still a lot of fun. Dan Bull has talent. The man is a lyrical machine!

What do you guys and gals think? Looking forward to Halo 4?

Enter the Dragon Baby

Dragon Baby is possibly the coolest Internet baby since Pearl the Landlord Baby.

I think that sort of Internet lunacy is the perfect way to start a morning. The animation is so fluid and realistic, and that baby knows a heck of a lot of martial arts for a baby. I didn’t know you could train them that young! The video was made by Patrick Boivin, who also turned his dog into an AT-AT and his baby daughter into Iron Man. Why this guy isn’t making the Avengers Babies movie, I do not know!
