The Incredibles 2 Has Another Surprise Villain
I liked The Incredibles 2 well enough. It’s a fun and exciting movie, about as fun and exciting as we could have hoped. The characters are fun and the action is exciting. But it definitely feels like a movie whipped up 15 years after the fact. Writer/director Brad Bird never made a sequel to The Incredibles because he’d told the story he set out to tell. Now, 15 years and one failed Tomorrowland later, Bird has apparently relented and trotted out a new adventure.
And like almost every single Pixar or Disney movie in the past five or so years, it has a surprise villain. What the heck is going on with this trend?
Recent readers of this blog might recall the List of Six I wrote only last month that blew the lid off this trend! Since then, my film theory has gained zero traction across the rest of the Internet, so I guess it’s still up to just me to keep harping on this.
It’s weird, right? Am I alone in thinking its weird that nearly every single recent Disney and Pixar movie has a surprise villain?
That’s where the villain’s identity is kept a secret through most of the film, until one of the friendly supporting characters is suddenly revealed to have been secretly evil this whole time.
I won’t reveal the secret identity of the villain — the very anachronistic Screenslaver — because the movie is still too new. I’ve probably said too much in revealing that the villain’s identity is a surprise twist. But somebody has to stand up to this weird storytelling trope at Disney! Somebody has to stand up for the Syndromes of the world, who are villains right from the get go, and are therefore allowed to have character development across the entire film, not just crammed into the very end!

Time to Go Watch The Incredibles 2!
The day has finally come, some 14ish years in the making! I’ll be heading to see The Incredibles 2 after work! Can’t wait for this hugely anticipated sequel! Honestly, I hope it’s great!
I still remember seeing the original Incredibles in theaters. Great film! One of Pixar’s best, but you already knew that. I mostly just wanted to celebrate The Incredibles 2 on this nice Friday, and Honest Trailers is always good for a post!

Holy Guacamole! Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Trailer Astounds!
At this point in the superhero movie landscape, I think it’s safe to be completely skeptical of anything SONY might be doing on their own for Spider-Man. But the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse looked amazing, and now the full-length trailer looks just as spectacular!
The hype is real. Here’s hoping SONY can pull it off! They even make the alternate reality Miles Morales stuff make some sense!
The animation also looks superb! And the comedy quite funny. This movie looks damn good!
The film debuts in December.

The first LEGO Movie 2 Trailer Has Landed!
Here is the real trailer I wanted to share today! The first trailer/look at The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part! And it looks great!
The first The LEGO Movie was a true masterpiece, as far as I’m concerned. That movie reached me in ways most movies and entertainment don’t anymore. The LEGO Movie touched me.
So I am very, very excited for the sequel! The movie looks nifty. The Mad Max-style stuff looks great, and it appears we’re going into outer space to meet another sub-brand of LEGO! Should be fun.
It’ll hit theaters in February 2019!

The New Trailer for Wreck-It Ralph 2 Kind of Wrecks My Interest in the Film
I’m still going to see Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 opening weekend. There’s no doubt or hesitation. But the new trailer released today kind of…I dunno…annoyed me?
See for yourself:
So yeah, the only search result for a website that is “really intense” and “super nuts” is Disney’s own website? And then the trailer just becomes Ralph and Vanellope hanging out with Disney characters and making really obvious Disney Princess jokes?
Does the movie Wreck-It Ralph not exist in this universe? All these Disney characters can exist on the Internet, but but Wreck-It Ralph doesn’t exist as a movie?
I dunno. The trailer just bugged me. It was all self-referential Disney nonsense.
And I get the joke poking fun at itself for the movie name…but it still went with the wrong movie name. “Break the Internet” is not a famous enough phrase to not use “Ralph Wrecks the Internet”, no matter how “kewl” the blue lady was designed to be.
