Doctor Who: The Animation too great to happen
From artist and Doctor Who fan, Stephen Byrne, this clip is for the opening of a Doctor Who cartoon that would be too fun to ever exist. Enjoy!
6 Best Ninja Turtle Knock-Offs
After serious contemplation, I think my favorite cartoon growing up in the 80s was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There were a lot of cartoons to choose from, but the Turtles were my favorite. They were great characters, their show was just a lot of fun, and I loved the toyline, which had even more awesome mutants. I loved that there was this endless supply of funny, cool, and radical mutants to collect.
So I’m pretty excited to see the new live action Ninja Turtle movie, even if it threatens to be as soulless as Michael Bay’s Transformers.
But there’s a dark side to my love for the Turtles as well, and that is my love for all of their crappy knock-offs too. Like all successful franchises, the Ninja Turtles spawned more than their fair share of crappy rip-offs. But whereas other companies can’t steal the Transformers without being obvious, it wasn’t that hard to make an action cartoon about anthropomorphic animal superheroes.
Join me after the jump for the best (or crappiest, depending on your point of view) Ninja Turtle knock-offs!
The Ninja Turtles Sure Have Changed
Somebody at HalloweenCostumes.com has the greatest, most fun job in the world. They get to make neat stuff like this! Most likely to honor the upcoming new movie this weekend. Anybody going to see it?
Pretty Rad Deadpool Test Footage
I had no idea this existed, but here it is: Deadpool movie test footage. Rumors and theories about a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds have been floating around Hollywood for ages. Well apparently, some time ago, some people put together this CGI footage of Deadpool being goofy and killing some thugs. It’s not half bad.
I’ve got my own problems with Deadpool. They are massive and varied. But I won’t go into them here. Based on this footage, I bet it could make for a really good movie. Who’s to say?
Star Wars Rebels Looks Fine, I Guess
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels cartoon, though it’s pretty much just an extended version of the last trailer. Still, it’s got Obi-Wan Kenobi in it, so that makes this trailer better by default.
I’m still very hesitant about this show. I finished watching Clone Wars a few weeks ago, and while that show was fun, it wasn’t the best thing since sliced bread. I also rewatched the original Star Wars trilogy a few weeks ago, and those movies really are surprisingly good films. I don’t think I’d seen them in years, but sitting down and watching them back-to-back was a real treat.
At any rate, this new Rebels cartoon looks to be about as cliche as you’d expect. It’s got the Luke character, it’s got the Han and Chewie characters, it’s got its own Darth Vader, and it’s even got its own R2-D2. And do they really want to put a Jedi into the Rebellion from the very beginning? Why wouldn’t you want to keep Luke Skywalker as the only Jedi in the Rebellion, who comes along at a time when they need him most? But that’s just my opinion. If you guys and gals are going ga-ga for Rebels, by all means!
