Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/22/25

Welcome back to the world of comic reviews! I’ve been on vacation this week, and one would think that would give me more time to read comics and review them, but nah. I’m as lazy as ever. But we’ve got a good batch this week with the likes of Absolute Flash and G.I. Joe.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Batman #6 for a very bombastic finale to the first story arc.

We never got an explanation for the people with tentacle heads

Meanwhile, I spent the majority of this week finally diving into Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and it’s everything I hoped it would be! I still haven’t mastered combat in the way you’re supposed to, but I do well enough. There needs to be an unlimited training mode/testing ground to practice. I saw The Day the Earth Blew Up in the theaters, and that was a hoot. And then the Severance season 2 finale was the bomb, yo! It’s been a good week.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #6, Absolute Flash #1, Exceptional X-Men #7 and G.I. Joe #5.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/15/25

Readers, you would not believe the month I’m having. Jeez louise. I’m only one man! But at least we’ve got good comics still coming out, like Absolute Batman and the new One World Under Doom.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern Corps #1 for a nice return to form for the GL stories I enjoy. Give me all the space cops!

That’s some good Green Lanterning

Meanwhile, I’ve got to buy a new car. And I did not save up for having to buy a new car, even though I knew I needed to. So I’m buying this thing based on what savings I do have at the moment, so it’s not great! Which means I’ve got to make Dragon Age: Veilguard and Stardew Valley last a bit longer in terms of entertainment. Avowed and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II are going to have to wait!

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #5, Green Lantern Corps #1, One World Under Doom #1 and X-Men #11.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/21/24

Happy Holidays, everyone! For some stupid reason, Christmas is on a Wednesday this year, right in the middle of the work week. I’ve got to go back to work the day after Christmas! Anyway, before that happens, we get to read some new comics like Absolute Batman and G.I.Joe.

Comic Book of the Week goes to another stellar issue of Wonder Woman, this time with a big Detective Chimp cameo to drive it all forward.

It’s true

Meanwhile, my decision to wait on Dragon Age: The Veilguard paid off because it was on sale this week for 40% off! So I snatched it up and am giving that a try. I’m very much enjoying both Skeleton Crew and Creature Commandos, so I’ve got plenty to watch and enjoy. And this Wednesday I’ll be heading home for Christmas with the family! Everything is humming along nicely.

Also, if I haven’t mentioned yet, Gamer Girl & Vixen Vol. 2: Tyrant Lizard Queen is finished and heading to the printers! So anyone who backed our Kickstarter or would like to read my comics, stay tuned for more info on getting a copy of my comic!

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #3, G.I.Joe #2, Power Rangers Prime #2 and Wonder Woman #16.

Toon Trailer Thursday!

Lots of trailers this week. I love a week that gives us a whole bunch of movie or TV or video game trailers, because I love watching and sharing trailers. Today we’ve got a pair of upcoming animated shows making their return!

First up is the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne, the sequel series to the truly excellent first Castlevania show on Netflix. I can safely say I don’t remember anything from the first season of Nocturne, which isn’t a good sign…

Looks like a fun, gory, action series to me! Which is exactly what the first show and the first season were all about. So yeah, I’ll definitely be tuning in to check out season 2…after finding a season 1 recap video on YouTube somewhere…

Castlevania: Nocturne returns to Netfix on Jan. 16.

Also returning next month is the fifth season of the Harley Quinn cartoon!

Count me among the fans who didn’t think season 4 was very good. This show was an insanely funny and crazy bit of television in the first two or three seasons, but then swiftly fell off…to the point that I haven’t even watched the spin-off Kite-Man series! But I’m not about to give up on Harley Quinn completely and I will be back for season 5!

Harley Quinn returns to Max…also on Jan. 16! Neat!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/7/24

I was on vacation from work this week and mostly spent the time relaxing and enjoying my various hobbies. I caught up on a lot of comics I’ve fallen behind on, and probably could and should have reviewed a lot more this week…

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #155 for an issue that’s fit to bursting with engaging storytelling and fantastic artwork!

Flippin’ gorgeous

Meanwhile, I spent the week playing through the discounted DLC from Sniper Elite 5, a game series I very much enjoy. I’m still doing another playthrough on Baldur’s Gate 3, because it’s cheaper than buying a fully priced Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which is what I was tempted to do. And I bought Hades on sale, so that should be fun once I really devout time to it. Beyond that, I built some LEGO and started reading Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run. A good, enjoyable week off, I’d say! And I’ve still got a few days left.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Superman #2, Batgirl #2, Batman #155 and X-Men #8.
