Tim Drake is LGBTQ+ Now
Tim Drake is my favorite Robin. And for some time now, I have been following the ups and downs of his costumed identity. Is he Robin? Is he Red Robin? Is he Drake? One thing I did not see coming is that apparently DC Comics is making Tim one of their LGBTQ+ characters!
In this week’s issue of Batman: Urban Legends, Tim Drake agrees to go on a date with an old guy friend named Bernard.
Bleeding Cool has a much fuller recap of the whole story. I haven’t been reading because I never bother with the various extra Batman comics out there, even if this seems like it was a pretty cool Tim Drake story.
But yeah, that’s the big Tim Drake news! They don’t define his sexuality in this issue. Bleeding Cool seems to think he might be bisexual. But when Marvel switched Iceman to LGBTQ+, they made him gay, despite his past relationships with multiple women. Tim has had a long lasting relationship with Stephanie Brown, Spoiler, but there’s no indication yet what DC is going to do with Tim.
Tim has long been a fan-favorite queer possibility, with fans putting him in a relationship with Conner Kent. Perhaps those fans will finally get their day!
Personally, I’m fine with this. DC has spent the past 10 years having no idea what to do with Tim Drake. As much as I love Tim as Robin, I think it’s way past time we graduated to his own identity. “Drake” was a bad idea, but he could still pick something else. Hopefully this change in his sexuality helps him come to terms with a new superhero identity.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/7/21
This is an interesting week in comics because I only have two to read and review! I’ve started to cut back on how many comics I read a week because sometimes I just don’t want to read everything on my plate, you know? I lost interest in the new Green Lantern series when it blew up the status quo, and I just wasn’t hooked on Crush and Lobo. But that’s perfectly fine when we’ve got new issues of Batman and X-Men!
Comic Book of the Week goes to X-Men #2 for another big screen comic book story. I like the look and feel of this comic, and I hope they can maintain and transition into more long-form enjoyment.
Meanwhile, I loved The Suicide Squad movie and will have my thoughts/review on Wednesday! I’m also loving the New Pokemon Snap free DLC and, oddly enough, I got back into playing Diablo 3 to try out some things I left undone years ago. That’s been neat.
Comic Reviews: Batman #111 and X-Men #2.

Does it feel good to have Marvel movies back in the theater! Went and saw Black Widow and I loved it! I’ll have my review/thoughts up on Wednesday. Until then, I also had some great comics this week, like Batman, Runaways and Wonder Girl.
Comic Book of the Week goes to X-Men #1 for a fantastic launch of the new series. Very excited about this one.
Meanwhile, I’ve got my 20th high school reunion on Friday. It will be exciting to let everybody know I’m still fat. But seriously though, should be a fun lark. I’ll tell everybody to come read my comic book reviews more often.
Comic Reviews: Batman #110, Children of the Atom #5, Runaways #37, Wonder Girl #2 and X-Men #1.

Current Nightwing artist Bruno Redondo has redesigned Batgirl’s costume for new, upcoming storylines! Batgirl gets costume redesigns all the time. I’m a particular fan of the Burnside costume. And this new outfit seems to be a combination of Burnside and Classic.
Redondo is doing great works on the Nightwing comic, with writer Tom Taylor. It’s fluid, smooth and drop dead gorgeous artwork. His Tim Drake Robin has been especially wonderful.
So I look forward to where this costume will show up! Reportedly new costumes are coming for Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain as well, creating a trio of Batgirls. We’ll see where that goes.
