Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/2/16
Happy Fourth of July Weekend, fellow American hench-people! Here in America, we celebrate with picnics and blowing stuff up. And apparently a Captain America comic that got a lot of people riled up last month! That seems like a solid way to celebrate America’s birthday. Comics are a good way to celebrate anything!
Though I’m sad to say I had a busy week at work, so I didn’t get to as many comics as I normally like. I read a good pile, though. There were some gems, and some duds. And I’m really, really sorry to say that I’m just not gelling with the new Black Panther series. I want to support any attempt to diversify a comic book line, but the series is just going way over my head. It’s a fine comic, but it’s just not for me, sad to say.
Not that the rest of these are all that great either…though I did enjoy one last romp with Grayson. Comic Book of the Week by a long shot.
It’s just an Annual issue, though, so what does it really matter? Hopefuly the Rebirthed Nightwing will be even half as good as Grayson.
Comic Reviews: Captain America – Steve Rogers #2, Captain Marvel #6, Grayson Annual #3 and Spider-Man #5.
6 Superheroes I Would Pay For in Marvel’s Avengers Academy Game
Against my better judgement and all odds, I’m still playing Marvel’s Avengers Academy mobile game. I didn’t have very many nice things to say about it in my List Review, but the entire point of mobile games like this are to just stay hooked and never let go. Sadly, I must admit than the prospect of seeing this alternate Marvel Universe expand has me hanging on.
Good thing I haven’t spent one red cent on the game.
Ostensibly, Avengers Academy would probably love to have me pay them actual money to play. They offer all manner of tantalizing doodads to buy, from event currency to special decorations to, most tempting of all: unique characters. Were I so inclined, I could buy the likes of Spider-Woman, Vision, War Machine, Captain Britain or Sif to join my Academy…but I’m not. I’m not about to spend a dime!
Unless, perhaps, Avengers Academy offers any of the following characters.
Cap and Black Widow Duke It Out in Deleted Storyboards
Here’s a little bit more Captain America: Civil War for all of us to enjoy! It’s a deleted scene featuring a scuffle between Captain America and Black Widow, animated with unused storyboards.
Big thanks and props to storyboard artist Darrin Denlinger for putting together this little bit of animation. It looks like it would have been a fun fight!

I Think I Like These More Than Cinema Sins
Recently, a hero at Shesellssheshells has started sinning the Cinema Sins videos! He throws shade at the weak sauce critiques that Cinema Sins has been putting down, as the kids are known to say. He has now torn apart Everything Wrong With Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s fun!
Though I’d come up with a better name than ‘Shesellssheshells’. I’m not even sure I’m spelling that right…

Thor: Ragnarok Puts Its Foot Down!
The first details of Thor 3: Ragnarok were unveiled today, with Marvel dropping both a cast list and this sweet concept art. The new cast members and characters sound very, very promising.
We’ve got Cate Blanchett playing Hela, the Norse goddess of the Underworld. Jeff Goldblum, of all people, is joining as the Grandmaster, which is a very interesting choice. He’s like The Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy, one of those oddball cosmic Marvel characters. Not sure what this means for the MCU.
Tessa Thompson will be the superhero Valkyrie, which is awesome. And the biggest news is that Karl Urban will be Skurge the Executioner! Hells yes! Now that is some casting and character I can get behind!
Good things happen when you’ve got Skurge and Hela in a Thor story together. Gjallerbru is the #1 thing I’ve wanted to see in the solo Avengers sequels since at least 2012! Surely Marvel’s going to make it happen. How could they not?
I’m still not sold on the Hulk being in this movie, but whatevs. I have nothing but absolute faith in the Marvel Movie Machine, and Thor: Ragnarok already sounds promising. It’s going to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
